Your Opportunity as the Senior Engineer, Database Services

This position is responsible for managing key enterprise and manufacturing database systems with a focus on SQL Server technology. You will be responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, security, and integrity of our on-premise systems and support our journey to the cloud by co-designing automated deployment, migration, and data replication strategies.

You will perform standard DBA tasks, such as development support, troubleshooting, backup and recovery, upgrades, patches, tuning and disaster preparedness.

Collaborating with customer-focused team members, you will help position our business for success by striving to exceed project deadlines and service level agreements, providing proactive communication.

In this role you will:

• Assist in architecting and enhancing database solutions to meet business needs, while following industry and Smucker best practices (plan, design, build, execution)

• Assist with DBaaS evaluation and proof of concepts

• Leverage infrastructure as code principles and automation for consistency and repeatability

• Collaborate with IS and business to understand data design, governance, flow, and priority

• Execution and enforcement of Smucker security, auditing policies, and controls

• Perform administrative tasks such as backup and recovery, patching, upgrades, installation, configuration, monitoring, disaster recovery

• Enhance processes and promote standards, maintaining strong technical documentation

• Partner with infrastructure, application development, and business teams to apply technology to solve business problems

• Provide 24x7 production support to meet service level availability agreements

What we are looking for:

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in related field, specialized training or equivalent work experience

• 3 years of experience as a SQL Server DBA

• Demonstrated administrative experience, performance tuning, monitoring, backup/recovery, and security

• Experience architecting/designing highly available database solutions

• Experience testing and deploying new database solutions

• Experience with database cloud technologies with at least one major cloud provider

• Experience with SQL Server features, such as Replication, Log Shipping, and Change Data Capture

• Experience with T-SQL, SSMS and data management, analysis and reporting tools, such as SSRS, and SSIS

• Experience with PowerShell scripting and automation

• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills

• Continuous learning mindset with an ability to quickly learn new skills

Additional skills and experience that we think would make someone successful in this role (not required):

• Experience with Windows Server administration and Active Directory authentication

• Working knowledge of additional database platforms such as Oracle, MySQL, Redshift, MongoDB, Data Bricks, DynamoDB

• Hands-on experience with multiple cloud providers

• Working knowledge of automation/scripting tool experience with tools like Azure DevOps, GIT, Jenkins, Ansible, and Infrastructure as Code concepts

• Experience managing multi-tiered enterprise application architectures

• Expert experience with database and statement performance tuning

• Experience with data analysis and reporting tools, such as Power BI or Tableau
