Description
Youth Baseball and Softball programs at The J provide opportunities for fun, recreation, and skill development in a welcoming and inclusive environment. The J’s facilities include five outdoor fields with lights, three of which are artificial turf fields; and an indoor turf space. In addition to year-round camps, clinics and training programs; The J offers two leagues during the year with over 200 teams participating.
The Supervisor, Youth Baseball and Softball is a part of The J’s Sports and Recreation team and coordinates and oversees all day-to-day operations and administration of Youth Baseball and Softball programming. The Supervisor ensures fiscal sustainability through strategic planning and innovative programming. The Supervisor performs all supervisory functions for a large staff of part time coaches and umpires; develops and implements a variety of programs; and ensures that all appropriate youth sports health and safety standards are maintained.
Essential Functions
- Operational supervision of all youth baseball and softball-related issues including facilities, equipment, maintenance, and housekeeping.
- Recruits/hires/supervises/schedules/trains/evaluates/disciplines all Youth Baseball and Softball employees.
- Creates, enforces, and oversees all policy, administrative and budgeting aspects of Youth Baseball and Softball programs and services.
- Administers payroll, maintains records and statistics.
- Works with Marketing Communications to oversee publicity, signage, and digital/traditional/social media marketing.
- Works cooperatively with professionals and lay people from within The J and other organizations to plan and implement special projects and events such as the annual C You in the Major Leagues Baseball Camp.
Requirements
- Three years of experience as Director, Supervisor or Manager of a Sports and Recreation program or department
- Background and experience in baseball/softball as a coach, umpire or administrator
- Entrepreneurial approach to running a Sports and Recreation facility/program: takes ownership of the program’s success; actively seeks innovative ways to grow and improve; and is able to set goals, measure and evaluate outcomes; and adjusts operations based on quantitative budget and customer satisfaction data.

- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong time management and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with technology related to finances, customer relations/service and employee management
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to move freely around the Fitness, Sports & Aquatics facilities.
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
- Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time outdoors.
