If so, we're looking for someone like you to join APL's Cyber Concepts and Exploration (QCE) leadership team.

QCE's mission is to focus on innovation and operational mission impact, specifically passionate about formal methods, software assurance, quantum computing, malware analysis, and resilient cyber architectures. We are seeking a Section Supervisor for QCE's Emerging Systems section. QCE-6 engineers support the development of new computing systems focused on both research and operational objectives.

QCE-6's supervisor will develop staff leadership and technical skills, promoting the capabilities needed to address cybersecurity challenges. Additionally, the supervisor will coordinate with other sections and groups, seeking opportunities to compliment others' strengths. Furthermore, the section supervisor will enhance APL's capabilities by prioritizing tasks aligned with Group strategy and resourcing those execution priorities through direct funded work and internal investments.

As Section Supervisor for the Emerging Systems Section, you will...

  • Lead the section's analysis and solution development efforts for quantum computing research and operational systems development. Teaming with QCE leaders, generate novel concepts for tackling sophisticated cybersecurity and mission resilience challenges to meet research objectives and emerging operational needs. Apply engineering best-practices and attention to detail to ensure high-quality and timely product delivery. (60%)
  • In concert with group and program leadership, actively pursue and support new business initiatives for the section and the group. Engage existing and potential new sponsors to define and develop new opportunities where the group can apply its experience toward solving new programs' toughest challenges. (20%)
  • Lead and manage staff through mentoring and coaching, supervising technical work, balancing section task loading, drafting hiring requisitions, interviewing candidates, and providing input for hiring decisions. Assist group leadership with staff and task planning, and performance evaluations. (20%)

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Have earned a Bachelor's in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Computer/ Electrical Engineering, or related fields
  • 4 or more years of experience researching the future of quantum computing and potential practices.
  • Demonstrate an ability to craft defensive cyber solutions that inhibit or mitigate operational impact from cyber-attack given constraints imposed by operations, performance, or organization.
  • Possess excellent professional oral and written communication skills.
  • Successfully lead and contribute to diverse teams, applying critical thought to solve complex problems.
  • Possess a Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
  • Are willing and able to travel up to 10%.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

    • Have earned a Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Computer/Electrical Engineering, or related fields with 5 or more years' experience with military systems architecture, design, and cybersecurity solutions.
    • Demonstrate a detailed understanding of DoD combat systems and/or related military operational technology, including embedded systems and supporting platform networks/data-busses.
    • Have experience working with DARPA/IARPA, DoD, and other IC sponsors.
    • Possess, and can maintain, a TS/SCI security clearance.
