Position – Bookkeeper
Reports to – Operations and Business Developer
POSITION SUMMARY
The Bookkeeper position reports directly to the Operations and Business Developer and shall be responsible for accounting and bookkeeping processes related to the financial operations of The Journey Home (TJH) This position directs the overall administrative, billing, accounting, and payroll functions of the organization in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and TJH’s Policies and Procedures and will assist the Operations and Business Developer in managing the organization's social media accounts. This is all done to help TJH in Ending Veteran Homelessness.
EXPECTATIONS AND SUMMARY OF ROLE
● Ownership of Responsibilities will Include:
o Prepares financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends for Executive Management and for monthly Financial and
Board of Directors Meetings.
o Processes vendor invoices, sets up and monitors payments per accounting policies to ensure that payments were made and reconciled within both the bank register and cash flow spreadsheet.
o Prepares deposits, enters documentation in accounting and donor applications (Currently Donor Perfect)and sends Thank You letters with the help from the
Operations and Business Developer. o Maintains sensitive and confidential historical records IAW accounting policies.
o Compiling and filing of federal, state (Currently Indiana and Florida), and local legal requirements to include but not limited to the filing of taxes, State unemployment or entity registration, gaming permits, and tax exempt information.
o Works together with The Veteran Outreach Director on the fiscal aspects of Grants related to the operation of both the facility (Currently Indiana only) and Outreach operations.
o Provide general administrative duties as required, to include but not limited to file management, onboarding, employee benefit reviews, payroll, invoicing, ordering equipment, and overall fiscal management of the organization's assets.
o Assist the Operations and Business Developer in managing the organizations social media accounts.
o All employees will be asked to volunteer at the 3 events each year to help generate awareness and funding.

Administrative/Fiscal Management duties.
o To be self-motivated, with a measured ability to identify solutions and work collaboratively to implement administrative strategies that would improve The
Journey Homes overall processes, while seeing tasks through till completion.
o Communicates effectively with all areas and levels within the organization.
o To manage daily, weekly, monthly and annual administrative/fiscal processes, and support TJH in the development of business networks according to Board approved policy and procedures.
o Staying focused on Mission Strategies and Veteran Outreach Team (VOT) Service
Standards when performing assigned duties and responsibilities.
PERFORMS DUTIES AND TAKES OWNERSHIP:
● Budgeting – This position is responsible for maintaining legal and best practice standards of organization and project budgets.
● Administration of Systems – This position is responsible for the daily processes of TJH business and operating systems.
● Accounting/Bookkeeping – This position is responsible for maintaining and completing all accounting and bookkeeping processes, which includes holding vendors accountable to agreed financial and bookkeeping outcomes (currently only the Department of Veteran
Affairs).
● TJH Contracts and Grant Awards – This position helps ensure TJH is fiscally adhering to government contract terms and periodically performs audits to ensure compliance with all terms and agreements are being met.
● All Other Duties as Assigned – This position is to maintain a positive connection with the
VA and other community resources, and be a positive example of the Mission, Vision and
Core Values of The Journey Home.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
● Complex Problem Solving – Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
● Judgment and Decision Making – Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one. To assist management in making strong fiscal decisions based on current/projected cash flow status.
● Speaking & Writing – Conveys information effectively either verbally and written.
● Critical Thinking – Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
● Reading Comprehension – Understanding multiple grant contracts/regulations to fully understand reporting and restrictions related to each grant award.
EDUCATION:
● Bachelor's in finance/accounting is preferred, but Certification(s), or successful work experience performing the task outlined above will be considered.
KNOWLEDGE:
● Administration and Management – Knowledge of accounting principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, cash flow forecasting, production methods and coordination of people and resources.
● Communication – Basic knowledge and the structure/content of the English language including the definitions, spelling, grammar and the , rules of composition.
● Computers and Electronics – Knowledge of computer programs, proficient in Office,
Windows, and use of everyday office machines.
● Online awareness and cyber-safety – Knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective protection of personal/business information and the operational structure of the organization's network, but not limited to the protection of people, data, and property.
● Customer and Personal Service – Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. Providing customer service to all entities that work with The Journey Home, to ensure successful continuation of partnerships.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $48,000.00 per year
