What are the responsibilities and job description for the Junior Geologist position at The Judge Group?
Our client is currently seeking a junior or mid-Level Geologist with a minimum of 2 years field experience with hazardous waste site projects under Federal or State cleanup programs to join our team serving both commercial and government clients in the Long Island, New York area.
Previous field experience should include soil logging, installation of monitoring wells and aquifer testing. Additional experience with multi-media environmental sampling, including soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, subsurface vapor, and air sampling is desired. Capable of evaluating data to reach sound technical conclusions and present/document findings in project reports using text, figures, tables, and graphs. Develop and assume responsibility for the execution of basic tasks/projects. This position requires the employee to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.
This job will have the following responsibilities:
- This position will have field and non-field related responsibilities. The physical demands of this position require the ability to perform field work, including lifting and maneuvering of sampling equipment and coolers in a range of weather and field conditions. Position may require travel.
? May be responsible for a range of additional tasks requiring scientific and geologic/hydrogeologic analytical techniques, including interpretation of hydrogeologic settings impacted by contamination.
- Other duties as may be assigned. Typical tasks will include field work planning and preparation; oversight of drilling and well installation; soil logging; and report preparation. Field work will also include multi-media environmental sampling to define the nature and extent of
- contamination, and management of investigation-derived wastes. All field work must be conducted in strict accordance with quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) and health and safety (H&S) procedures.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Must have a BS degree in Geology or related technical discipline, and a minimum of 2 years of industry experience with hazardous waste site projects. Experience with geologic, hydrogeologic, engineering, and/or general environmental projects and data interpretation is required. First Aid and CPR training are a plus.
- Existing certifications for Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training specified in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 29 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1910.120 (e) is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and develop both written technical documents and tabular presentation of data is required.
- Fundamental understanding of sampling environmental media, which may include groundwater, soil, surface water, sediment, or air is required.
- A driver?s license current and valid for a state in the United States is required.
