Plant Manager

We are working with a food industry manufacturer seeking a Plant Manager to join their team in their Wheeling, WV area location. You will oversee the operations of a dairy processing facility, ensuring the production of high-quality dairy products while maintaining efficiency, safety, and compliance with regulatory standards. Your responsibilities will include managing production schedules, supervising staff, optimizing processes, and implementing strategies to enhance productivity and profitability.

Responsibilities:

Operations Management:

• Plan, organize, and coordinate daily production activities to meet production targets and customer demands.
• Monitor and analyze production processes to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
• Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, quality standards, and company policies throughout the production process.

Personnel Management:

• Recruit, train, and supervise production staff, ensuring they are adequately trained and motivated to perform their roles effectively.
• Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
• Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and address any performance issues in a timely manner.

Inventory and Supply Chain Management:

• Manage inventory levels to ensure adequate supply of raw materials and packaging materials while minimizing excess inventory and associated costs.
• Coordinate with procurement and logistics teams to optimize supply chain processes and minimize lead times.

Maintenance and Equipment:

• Oversee maintenance activities to ensure the proper functioning of equipment and facilities.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and prolong equipment life.
• Coordinate with external vendors for equipment repairs and maintenance as needed.

Quality Assurance and Food Safety:

• Implement and maintain HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and other food safety programs to ensure product safety and quality.
• Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify and address potential food safety risks.
• Investigate and resolve any quality issues or customer complaints in a timely manner.

Budgeting and Cost Control:

• Develop and manage the annual operating budget for the plant, including expenses related to labor, materials, and maintenance.
• Monitor production costs and identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve profitability without compromising quality or safety standards.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Dairy Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field. Advanced degree or relevant certifications preferred.
• Proven experience in dairy processing or related food manufacturing industry, with at least 5 years of experience in a managerial role.
• Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to effectively communicate, delegate tasks, and motivate teams.
• In-depth knowledge of dairy processing techniques, food safety regulations, and quality assurance standards.
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
• Proficiency in computer applications such as MS Office and ERP systems.
