ABOUT THE ROLE AND OUR TEAM:
We are a close-knit and collaborative legal team that enjoys working on fun and challenging projects together. We are looking for a technology-focused, business-savvy, and collaborative attorney to join our global legal team and help us build products that will change the world. Following a return to office, this position will be based on EST and Barcelona, Spain time zones.
The Product Counsel (you!) will be the global legal team's point person on product and service legal compliance. You will work closely with the teams that build our transformative products, advising them as an integral partner. You will report to our General Counsel.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with those building products to ensure that new and existing products and services are compliant with all applicable laws and appropriately balance innovation and risk.
- Help negotiate product-related technology procurement contracts.
- Coordinate with product, commerce, global media, marketing, sales and other teams on product-related legal compliance.
- Provide strategic advice to the General Counsel regarding future regulatory requirements, including in consumer protection, advertising and privacy as they relate to our current and contemplated products and services.
- Collaborate with the strategy, business development, product, ecommerce and global media teams to generate and manage business and technology partnerships.
- Guide IP strategy and help manage the intellectual property portfolio. Manage IP-related disputes.
- Assist with efforts to ensure that diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility are built into our products and services.
- Assist our global privacy organization with US privacy issues as necessary.
SUCCESSFUL PRODUCT COUNSEL CANDIDATES HAVE:
- JD from an accredited US law school (or international equivalent) and member of the bar in any US jurisdiction with the ability to practice in-house in Maryland.
- 5 years of legal experience post-qualification.
- 2 or more years of experience counseling on product legal issues in a technology company. Experience in a marketplace or e-commerce businesses would be a significant plus and experience with an advertising business is a plus.
- Experience counseling clients on IP and privacy issues related to product development.
- A growth-oriented mindset that shows curiosity and an eagerness to learn.
- Strong collaboration skills both within and across teams.
- Exceptionally organized with an ability to manage multiple projects on aggressive deadlines.
- Experience with intellectual property and other disputes and litigation is a plus.
- Fluency in a foreign language, particularly Spanish, is a plus.
