We’re looking for a versatile, hands-on Head of Finance. In addition to overseeing all finance and accounting, the Head of Finance will act as a partner with the exec team and will support strategic initiatives to help scale, sustain and support the growth at KCL. You will need to operate at depth, understanding the details of our business model, while also being able to “zoom out” to connect the dots across the company. As Head of Finance, you’ll lead and grow our finance department while working directly with our executive team to cover all aspects of the accounting and financial planning and analysis functions in a self-funded and profitable, privately owned business.
For this full-time, remote position, KCL will currently consider applicants who reside in the following states: Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Ohio, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Virginia, or Wisconsin, with a strong preference for candidates in the Boise, ID area.
In this role you will manage both the finance functions and the current finance team including:
- Manage our current finance/accounting team and scale the team based on KCL’s needs
- Serve as the direct support for all things accounting and finance for all other teams at KCL, including HR and sales
- Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and year-end activities; including forecasting, tax preparation and department-level budgeting
- Oversee all aspects of the day-to-day financial management, including: preparation of company-wide revenue reporting, profit and loss statements, tax related duties, and financial planning
- Increase the company’s ability to anticipate business issues and drive solid decision-making through sound financial management
- Identify deficiencies and further develop guidelines and processes corresponding to the rapid growth of the company
- Own all accounting, AR/AP related responsibilities:
- Manage all vendor/contractors contracts
- Own the maintenance of accounts payable processing incoming vendor invoices
- Work with internal teams to invoice clients while providing top-notch customer service to clients and sales team
- Reconcile and collect on past due invoices at a regular interval
- Make weekly bank deposits.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit card statements and expense reports
- AP/AR and credit card reconciliation
- Own all payroll processes:
- Process bi-weekly payroll
- Multi-state payroll set-up and maintenance
- Ensure KCL is compliant with all state registrations, tax laws and required reporting
- 401k and benefits administration
- Bonus logistics and agreements
- Build out and maintain company-wide revenue reporting:
- Prepare forecasts and KPI reporting for use in organizational planning, financial forecasting, budget setting and strategic planning
- Implement financial and operational metrics and analytics
- Implement and overview internal control procedures (including separation of duties, access controls, physical audits, standardized documentation, trial balances, periodic reconciliations, and approval authority.)
About you:
- Relevant Experience. We have many roles across the company for folks newer in their career, this is not one of them. 7 years experience of progressively responsible financial management and accounting experience with at least 3 years of management experience.
- Accounting and Finance Expertise. Comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), LLC/SCorp business practices, and experience with privately held and profitable companies.
- You’re a technology geek. We’re a progressive company and we heavily leverage technology to streamline our workflows. Must have a working knowledge of Salesforce CRM, Mac computers, Quickbooks online and desktop, and/or comfortable with learning new technology systems. You must already be proficient with the usual (ie. Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Google Suite, etc), and past experience with online accounting platforms (we use QBO), BI tools (we use Looker), and project management tools (we use Asana.
- Problem Solver. Demonstrated history of solving multiple complex operational and accounting challenges.
- Aptitude for team leadership. Influencing and galvanizing others to follow you toward a solution. You’ll be responsible for leading and growing a small team of finance professionals and mentoring and coaching your team will be a big part of your success.
- Strong communication skills – both written and verbal. Must be able to articulate clearly complex processes to audiences with differing levels of understanding. You take our mantra seriously: We make confusing things simple and you find ways to easily communicate complicated concepts.
- Impeccable organization and attention to detail. If you geek out over the details, spreadsheets, profit and loss statements and saving money, that’s a great sign.
