What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grants Manager position at The Land Institute?

As the Grants Manager, your skills, and expertise will support The Land Institute in serving our mission by improving grant management efficiencies. You play a key role by administering the grants process and assisting the Chief Operating Officer in ensuring the accurate and timely completion of financial statements, compiling grant information, internal controls, and other tasks that keep the organization in compliance with GAAP and displays our commitment to strong fiscal grant management.

Responsibilities:
  • Tracking grant applications and managing the grant database.
  • Providing internal support with reviewing grant budgets.
  • Ensuring compliance with grant regulations, educating staff on policies, and preparing grant reports.
  • Preparing quarterly documentation, processing expense reports, and managing the administration process of the grant programs, including reporting and coordination of payments.
  • Preparing monthly and/or quarterly reimbursement expenditure vouchers.
  • Prepare accurate and timely grant fund reports for management and program leads.
  • Maintain, monitor, and review relevant grant data in the required city, state, and federal portal systems.
  • Notify Chief Operating Officer of a potential necessity for a single audit and preparation for a single audit if/when the need arises.
  • Coordinate with the TLI grants team and work to improve communication between those applying for grants and accounting staff, to standardize and streamline the process.
  • Work to implement a grants management system within Financial Edge or other identified system, alongside a chosen consulting firm.
  • Serve as a financial contact point for designated external collaborators.
  • Coordinate and manage quarterly update meetings with TLI staff that have current and/or pending grants to discuss: spend on each grant, payroll allocations and upcoming changes, grant spend down, grant reporting, grant invoicing and any other grant related topics.
  • Assist during the budget process as needed.

Environmental and Working Conditions:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer and phone.
  • Work in a general office environment.

Compensation and Benefits:
The Land Institute offers an excellent benefits package and a competitive salary that is commensurate with experience. The salary range for this position is $55,000 - 65,000 annually.

Job Experience
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in grant management.
  • Working knowledge of QuickBooks, Financial Edge, Raisers Edge or other equivalent accounting software as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with grant processing including federal, state, and local government laws and regulations regarding grant administration is a plus.
  • Single audit experience is a plus.
