Job Description

The Product Design Manager (PDM) is responsible for leading, growing and development of the Product Design team and its members.  They also have major responsibilities for the  creative development process with the team, and the review and enhancement of both existing and new products from concept to launch as needed. They will evaluate and ensure the feasibility and optimization design of potential and current products with the team, and is responsible for organizing timelines and milestones of multiple product launches and coordinating with outside partners for successful execution of work and contracts at the same time. They play an integral role in the Product and Pre-Construction group and work regularly with other departments of Destination Homes. Creativity, Leadership and Time Management will be a major skill the Product Design Manager will need to have.

Primary Duties

• Oversee and lead and grow the product design team. Conduct regularly scheduled1:1’s and performance reviews.
• Active participant of design charettes.
• Organize and maintain timelines for product development and launch. Provide weekly  updates to all pertinent parties.
• Coordinate with outside consultants, drafters, engineers, trades etc.
• Negotiate scopes of work, contracts, price, and timelines with outside vendors.
• Facilitate the Architectural Review Board approval process.
• Value Engineer products to meet design criteria. Get internal and external input throughout the process.  Reduce costs  without sacrificing flow and architectural integrity.
• Redline CDs for accuracy and consistency.
• Create and redline and maintain options.
• Maintain CAD files & CAD master templates.
• Maintain library of details per architectural styles.
• Regularly visit the field for perspective and to build relationships.
• Establish townhome property line adjustments and mass grading.
• Support and promote Destination Homes’ mission statement, vision, and core values.
• Assist with all other tasks and projects as directed by management.

Experience & Skills

• Drafting Degree, technical training, or equivalent knowledge
• Extensive knowledge of AutoCAD
• Relevant residential drafting experience
• Needs to understand how a house is constructed.
• Excellent leadership skills and organizational skills with the ability to shift priorities as needed but also making sure nothing gets overlooked.

Physical Requirements

• Primarily an in-office position with infrequent walking, standing, and climbing stairs in/around construction sites, apartment homes, models, and properties.
• Must have the ability to read and comprehend large quantities of information, operate computer equipment, speak, hear, bend, stoop, reach, lift, move, and carry up to 25 lbs. independently.
• Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, and move about office setting.
• To perform other duties as required.
