Purchasing Agent reports to: Vice President of Purchasing
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Purchasing Agent reviews new product designs to ensure compliance with Destination Homes’ established budget guidelines, as well as finding and networking with new trades and suppliers to maintain a fresh vendor base. They ensure the accuracy of the purchase order system and all variance reporting and facilitate the achievement of Destination Homes’ business plan goals within the established departmental budget. The Purchasing Agent generates accurate and timely purchase orders according to Destination Homes’ established guidelines and works with construction to proactively resolve variances in support of the company’s overall profitability and customer satisfaction goals. Other responsibilities include:
- Ensure the effective use of the budgeting and estimating systems to maintain information flow and data integrity throughout the bidding and contract management processes.
- Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of the purchase order system and its relationship to other departments’ systems and processes.
- Serve as a product knowledge resource for field and sales personnel regarding plans, specifications, etc.
- Notify Management of potential cost increases or liabilities that could affect the budget of ongoing or new projects.
- Provide support to the accounting department when questions or concerns arise regarding conflicting invoice and purchase order amounts.
- Review and ensure the accuracy of all drafted homeowner plans compared to the color selections forms.
- Support and promote Destination Homes’ mission statement, vision, and core values.
- Assist with all other tasks and projects as directed by Management.
- Research and compare suppliers, goods, and services.
- Request cost proposals and negotiate contracts and prices.
- Prepare and process purchase orders.
- Maintain records of all transactions, purchase orders, receipts, and payments.
- Build and maintain positive, long-term supplier relations.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- 2-3 years’ experience in purchasing preferred.
- Degree in business administration, procurement, or a related field preferred.
- Understanding of the operational philosophy and business nature of the company
- Proficiency in CRM and inventory management software programs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation skills.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Ability to work under deadlines.

Physical Requirements
- This position requires frequent walking, standing, and climbing stairs in/around construction site, apartment homes, models, and properties.
- This position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions (to include but limited to, rain, snow, heat, hail, wind, and sleet), around hazardous chemicals, dust, dirt, and other particulates.
- Must have the ability to read and comprehend large quantities of information, operate computer equipment, speak, hear, bend, stoop, reach, lift, move, and carry up to 60 lbs. independently.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, and move about office setting.
- To perform other duties as required.
