The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) is a six-time National
Recreation and Parks Association Gold Medal Award Winner with over 5,000 employees that administers over 52,000 acres of stream valley parks, large regional parks, neighborhood parks, and park-school recreation areas throughout Montgomery and Prince George's Counties. The Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking a Park Manager I for its Northern Region Parks Division. Under direction, this position will be responsible for managing the Grounds Maintenance program for over 300 park sites within the Polk Street Maintenance Facility service area, as well as, providing general park maintenance oversite and assistance to other Park Operations work programs. The ideal candidate should have a background in general park maintenance, including playgrounds, trails, and athletic field maintenance.



 Project Management:
 
  • Assist senior park manager with developing, planning, and implementing projects.
  • Assist with leading diverse park operation programs that include landscaping, ball field renovation, play equipment inspection and repair, wildlife management, park inspections, etc.
  • Identify needs and develop park maintenance plans for grounds and facilities within the Northern Region.
  • Conduct research to identify conservation programs to preserve and protect the park system, environment, and wildlife.
  • Coordinate projects with other Commission and governmental units; review plans and specifications to determine the scope of projects. Meet with architects, engineers, and inspectors during a project and routinely inspect the work of Commission crews and contractors to ensure conformity with instructions.
  • Review and prioritize work requests daily, develop and implement a daily work program to respond to special requests and routine tasks in a proper and expeditious manner.
  • Work closely with other Area Supervisors and the Area Program and Park Maintenance Managers to ensure that the total work program for the area’s parks and recreation needs are met efficiently and effectively.
Human Resources:
 
  • Plan, schedule, and assign duties to a diverse team.
  • Develop and approve performance evaluations.
  • Initiate recognition and disciplinary action.
  • Approve timecards and leave requests.
Customer Service:
 
  • Meet and work with park patrons to discuss and resolve arising concerns.
  • Handle inquiries from the public.
  • Allocate vital resources (staff and equipment) to achieve a successful program.
  • Provide general assistance to park visitors. Enforce Park rules. Assists proper authorities with investigating accidents, fires, and crimes.
Budget:
 
  • Participate and provide input to annual budget requests for assigned areas.
  • Monitor and keep track of expenditures and revenues within the approved budget.
  • Identify equipment, materials, and supplies needed to fulfill projects.
  • Monitor contractors and approve payments.
Administrative:
 
  • Maintain administrative records for expenditures, timecards, inventory, accidents, and injuries.
  • Write budget and expenditure reports, work reports, and special reports as required.
  • Attend conferences to identify new programs, methods, and equipment.

 1. Bachelor's degree in park management/administration, outdoor recreation, natural sciences, or a related field and one year of park management experience that included supervision and leadership of a staff; or

2. An equivalent combination of education and experience.

3. Valid driver's license.

4. Additionally, contingent upon area of assignment, some positions in this class may require:
a. Commercial Driver's License with appropriate endorsements upon appointment, or the ability to acquire one within six months.
b. Maryland Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator's certification in the categories appropriate to the work assignment.
c. Certification by the National Playground Safety Institute.Class/Specification: Park Manager I

May be subject to medical, drug and alcohol testing.
