We are currently looking for a Microbiologist (1st Shift). The Microbiologist is responsible, performing microbiological testing of manufactured products, the ingredients, and the environment following set procedures approved by the FDA. These tests ensure compliance to company, customer, and government microbiological standards.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Performs finished product microbiological testing (includes sample prep, testing, media prep., reading plates and data entry).
- Environmental monitoring (swabbing, water sampling/testing, air exposures, investigating issues, etc.)
- Preparation and sending of Customer Certificates of Analysis
- Coordinates product holds, rejects and releases based on company procedures.
- Verify incoming ingredient Certificates of Analysis
- Sample incoming ingredients for testing
- Assist in root cause analysis for quality issues on finished goods.
- Isolates non-conforming product in accordance with established procedures.
- Calibrates laboratory equipment at specified frequencies.
- Participate in GMP audits of facility
- Maintain inventory of supplies
- Trains and mentors’ new hires, interns in quality procedures and equipment.
- Reviews and updates SOP’s for in process lab procedures.
- Trains and mentors’ new hires, interns in quality procedures and equipment.

- Assists QA Lab Supervisor and QA Manager as needed
- Adheres to all GMP, including sanitary requirements, Safety, Food Safety, and Standardized Work procedures.
- Responsible for all aspects of safety, continuous improvement/efficiency improvement and adhering to policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as requested or assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in food science or related field with one year of equivalent experience, which could be an internship, in food manufacturing is required.
- Two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices and aseptic microbiological techniques is preferred.
- Better Processing Control School is Beneficial.
