The Mermaid Inn are seeking a friendly and organized Restaurant Host to join our team in the heart of New York City. This role is crucial in creating a welcoming environment and ensuring guests have a memorable dining experience. The ideal candidate will be the first point of contact for our guests and must be adept at managing reservations and seating within a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

• Greet guests promptly and warmly as they enter the restaurant.
• Manage dining reservations using OpenTable software, optimizing seating arrangements and flow.
• Answer phone calls, take reservations, and provide information about the menu and restaurant events.
• Communicate guest preferences and special requests to the kitchen and serving staff.
• Monitor dining sections and guest flow to enhance the efficiency of the service.
• Maintain a clean and organized reception area.
• Assist in coordinating with the service and kitchen teams to ensure smooth operations.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, potentially for the duration of the shift (6-8 hours).
• Must be able to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or up to 15 pounds without assistance.
• Navigate crowded and potentially noisy environments efficiently and safely.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a host/hostess or in a similar customer service role.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent communication skills, with proficiency in English.
• Experience with OpenTable or similar reservation management software is essential.
• High school diploma or equivalent; further education is a plus.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 23 – 30 per week

Shift:

• 8 hour shift
• Day shift
• Evening shift
• Morning shift
• Night shift

Weekly day range:

• Monday to Friday
• Weekends as needed
