Job Overview:
The Assistant Engineer II position is with the Operations Compliance Team in Water Quality Section, located in La Verne, California. This team ensures the satisfaction of Metropolitan’s customers, member agencies, sub-agencies, and drinking water consumers in relation to water quality.

The Assistant Engineer will serve as a Water Quality liaison for the Water Treatment Section and Conveyance and Distribution Section within the Metropolitan Water District to support operation of water treatment plants and distribution system, ensuring continued compliance with current and future drinking water regulations. The Assistant Engineer will assist with reviewing and summarizing water treatment plant operations data, assist in conducting full-scale evaluations and process optimization studies, and assist with providing recommendations to the Water Treatment Section and Conveyance and Distribution Section. The Assistant Engineer will generate water quality and operations compliance reports using established templates. The Assistant Engineer will also collect water quality samples as needed at Metropolitan’s water treatment plants and in the distribution system and will support emergency responses as needed, after proper training.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and two years of relevant experience, of which two years must have been at the Assistant Engineer I level.

Related degree is defined as:
Engineering (Civil, Sanitary, Environmental, Chemical, Mechanical) or Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Microbiology, or Biological Sciences.

Relevant Experience is defined as:
assisting in working with water and/or wastewater treatment processes, OR distribution system water quality monitoring and/or operations, OR experience in water/wastewater regulatory compliance.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

License(s): Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
