The Role. MVS is seeking an upper school physics teacher committed to developing critical and creative thinkers who collaborate and communicate effectively using evidenced-based argumentation. This new faculty member will be joining a department that strives to celebrate the diversity of the MVS community through its differentiated instruction, offers assessments that provide a range of opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning, and integrates coursework with other academic departments and the world at-large. The Science Department takes its charge of inculcating a deep fidelity to the Scientific Method as the fundamental paradigm of rigorous inquiry. The new faculty member should be dedicated to developing curricula that are culturally-inclusive, rich in relevance to the experiences of students, and rooted in immersive laboratory work.

- And of course, you will get to Teach! As an upper school science teacher, you will teach two sections of physics, one section of conceptual physics, and one additional science elective.
Expectations:

- Demonstrate a teaching proficiency and comfort with a variety of teaching methods and learning needs; most importantly supporting immersive, experiential learning;

- Demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning through engagement in ongoing professional development;
- Build collaborative partnership with students, faculty, and parents;
- Develop and facilitate culturally inclusive curricula and inclusive classroom practices;
- All faculty can expect to travel with students (grades 4-12) for 1-3 weeks per year;
- This is primarily an upper school position, but based upon yearly enrollment could be asked to teach in the middle school;
Primary Responsibilities:
- Teach two sections of physics, one section of conceptual physics, and one section of a science elective. Based upon enrollment an upper school faculty member could be asked to teach a middle school course;
- Lead/Co-lead an Immersion program in January;
- Develop and propose new courses each year, including new Immersion programs;
- Serve as an advisor for a group of 10-12 students;
- Lead and/or advise extracurricular activities, which include student clubs and athletics;
- Report to the Upper School Division Director;
Qualifications:
- Possess a desire to work with pre-teen and teenage students in an experiential setting;
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and parents;
- Possess excellent communication skills;
- Ideal candidates will possess prior experience teaching science in middle and/or upper school settings, advising clubs, coaching athletics, and/or leading student travel learning programs;
- Undergraduate or advanced degree(s) in Physics, or other related degree;
- Candidates without prior teaching experience will also be considered;
