Overview
Reporting to the Facility Security Officer and under general direction, the Security Systems Specialist will assist with the Institute’s overall physical security plan and have daily oversight of the 24/7 security guard force.
Will coordinate with the third-party Security vendor all schedules, training requirements and staffing needs to maintain round the clock coverage at all Institute facilities. Will act as primary backup for any staffing shortages and perform all other related duties and tasks as required or assigned.
The Security Systems Specialist will also be responsible for the oversite of the Institute’s physical security system to include maintaining and monitoring alarms, access control systems, intrusion detection systems, CCTVs and all other related security equipment. Will install and oversee security networks and equipment, work with internal colleagues and subject matter experts to develop appropriate security practices and protocols, make recommendations for security improvements and enhancements, review and update/maintain security policies, and assist the Facility Security Officer with maintaining relationships with outside law enforcement and emergency response personnel.
The Security Systems Specialist will be required to be available for periodic night, holiday and weekend security shifts as well as on-call coverage.
Qualifications
Requires a bachelors degree and 2 years of directly related security experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained. A minimum of 1 year of previous supervisorial experience is required.
Must have prior experience with installing and maintaining a variety of physical security equipment including access control and CCTV systems, and demonstrated experience developing and enforcing security protocols and policies in a 24/7 workplace.
Requires professional-level verbal and written communication skills; excellent judgment, problem-solving and decision making skills; the ability to maintain confidentiality at all times; and must exhibit professionalism when dealing with sensitive situations. Must have professional-level experience with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.
Must be able to obtain a Secret personnel clearance.
