The Writer/Editor shall serve The Navigators and fulfill the responsibilities listed below in the spirit of The Navigators calling, values and purpose: To advance the Gospel of Jesus and His kingdom into the nations through spiritual generations of laborers living and discipling among the lost.
This experienced Writer & Editor will research ministry story leads for both digital and print channels and proactively work ahead according to the editorial plan. The Writer & Editor will create clear and compelling ministry impact stories for the Disciple! Print publication.
Responsibilities:
Writing/Editing
- Write, edit, and proofread all types of printed and digital content within the process and schedule, and within the Navigators’ brand and messaging guidelines, specifically writing feature ministry impact stories for the Disciple! Publication.
- Research and qualify story leads for both digital and print publications.
- Curate story content to follow the editorial plan, planning 3-6 months ahead.
- Proactive in working ahead of editorial deadlines, thrives in the world of multi-tasking and strives for excellence.
- Build strong relationships with Navigators ministry leaders and staff to report on what God is doing across the ministry.
- Interview Navigators and everyday disciplemakers to create emotionally compelling ministry impact stories.
- Follow up with staff to thank them for sharing their stories and send the request for their approval after the final copy is completed through Right Signature (approval software).
- Collaborate with both sides of the marketing team with content updates that pertain to the Disciple!
- Organize the finalized content in Smart Sheet which is an archival library of content.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in Navigators on-site learning and development events, Cultural Development and Diversity trainings or other non-Navigator developmental events as appropriate.
- Participate in the annual, organizational Plan and Progress Review (PPR) process.
- Submit time worked on a weekly basis through the Workday Time Tracking system (if applicable)
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
Spiritual: Belief in and adherence to the Statement of Faith and Mission of The Navigators. Knowledge of biblical principles and doctrine.

Technical Knowledge & Skills: Microsoft Office; Google Suite. Adobe editing software, exceptional writing and editing skills; firm understanding of the creative communication process, including print, social technology/electronic and audio/visual communications.
Communication & Leadership: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including verbal & written, to create understanding and build strong working relationships required.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism. or Marketing preferred. Familiarit with copyright and trademark law.
Compensation Range: $25.00-30.00/hour
