Shipping Supervisor
SUMMARY: The Shipping Supervisor is to assure on time shipping of all orders that are ready to ship. They will plan the most efficient routes possible and will minimize the necessity of using overtime to achieve the goal of on time delivery.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Planning the routes, the trucks will take and scheduling of drivers
- Serve as the key communication link between Shipping and Production
- Look at what is ready to be shipped for current day and future
- Closely supervise/monitor the productivity levels of the staff in order to make sure that goals/targets are reached
- Make informed decisions about the best way to schedule shipping, balancing efficiency goals with customer needs
- Resolve all shipping-related issues that may arise in the company
- Manage all shipping-related documents like pick-up slips and any other shipping and/or delivery document
- Work in collaboration with other departmental managers to ensure a free-flowing process
- Work in conjunction with the Plant Supervisors to increase efficiency
- Work in conjunction with the Plant Supervisors to administer safety procedures
- Report all maintenance issues to Maintenance Supervisor for scheduling
- Serve as direct manager over the positions of: Driver, Shipping Forklift Operator, Shipping Assistant, and Planner / Purchaser
- Investigation and corrective action of customer complaints regarding shipping issues
- Close out any complaints pertaining to the department by the end of each period
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the shipping department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- In depth knowledge of the corrugated industry typically gained though several years of progressive experience in a similar environment
- Ability to memorize detailed information about nuisances and capabilities of several machines
- Strong interpersonal skills - ability to work and communicate effectively with personnel from multiple departments
- Ability to motivate and lead a team
- Ability to multi-task
- Ability to make informed decisions
- Ability to work with frequently changing priorities and deadlines
- Ability to perform a high-level assessment of what needs to be accomplished, then develop a detailed plan to achieve it
- Excellent communication skills. Ability to proactively communicate and adjust language to address the recipient at an appropriate level
- Solid understanding of business concepts
- Ability to administer disciplinary actions
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- High school diploma or GED plus college and/or appropriate technical courses
- Five years experience as a proven manager
- Ten years corrugated manufacturing experience
- Preferred Bachelors Degree
