Description

The Northwest School is a college-preparatory, co-educational day and boarding independent school near the heart of downtown Seattle. We offer a rich and challenging program to about 450 students in grades 6 through 12, including international students, many of whom live in our campus dormitory.

We are the only independent school in Seattle with an international boarding program and dormitory. The education of global citizens with a deep appreciation of different cultures is a founding principle of the school.

The dormitory is located just one block west of campus, and houses approximately 50 students on gender-specific floors. Students typically live two to a room, sometimes with a roommate from a different country. Common areas include lounges where students can relax, watch TV, or play ping pong and foosball; a kitchen; laundry facilities; a computer lab; and a study room.

The Director of Residential Life oversees the on-campus housing program for the academic year and the summer program. The Director is responsible for overseeing the operations of the on-site dormitory including programming, parent communications, student support, and supervising a staff of Residential Advisors, . This is a 12 month position and reports to the Director of Global Outreach and Programs.

Essential Tasks:

Lead, develop, and sustain a comprehensive residential life program that is aligned with the schools mission and achieves the school's strategic plan and vision.

Supervise a staff of residential advisors and manage a complicated schedule, ensuring the Dormitory is adequately staffed at all times.

Work in collaboration with the residential advisors and the Upper School Student Support Team to design and facilitate retention-oriented programming.

Oversee the arrival and departure processes for residential students.

Maintain communication with parents of residential students.

Oversee the student conduct process for residential students.

Manage student services including safety, health and medical care, and counseling of residential students. This includes organizing transportation to and from any medical appointments and coordinating with the Health Coordinator for medication distribution.

Identify and secure home stays as needed for residential students during longer school breaks.

Membership on school committees or special projects as needed.

Oversee meal delivery and communication to any students in quarantine or isolation for illness.

Works with the Safety Committee to update, oversee and communicate all emergency procedures (fire drills, lock down, etc.).

Create and oversee driving schedules for regular activities.

Perform similar responsibilities for residents of the summer camp program.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree and minimum 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.

Experience working with international students is preferred.

Must have a valid driver license and a clean driving record.

Willing to train for a CDL driver license.

Compensation:

Salary is highly competitive with top independent schools in the region and commensurate with education and experience. Salary range is $68,000 - $73,000 annually.
