Job Title: Biostatistician II Department: Medicine | School Biomed Sci - Biomedical Informatics Biostatistician II to support biomedical research projects across the health sciences fields as a member of the Center for Biostatistics in the Department of Biomedical Informatics; consults and provides guidance to understand and determine biostatistical requirements of research projects to identify trends in statistical analysis strategies, methodology and expertise needed by principal investigators across the University; advises study investigators in the areas of protocol development, study design, analysis plan, sample size / power calculations, and interpretation of study data; develops, designs and writes new and/or revised statistical programs and modeling based on requirements of ongoing research projects; conducts and interprets analyses of research data using descriptive statistics, basic inferential tests, and advanced statistical procedures; evaluates and ensures statistical integrity, accuracy and validity of research data; identifies potential data problems and takes appropriate action to resolve issues to ensure consistent, accurate and valid conclusions; compiles results and provides statistical summaries and reports to principal investigators; supports grant proposal preparation by providing design, sample size calculations, and development of statistical analysis plans; assists with preparation of journal articles, technical reports and other materials for publication and presentation; attends and presents at relevant scientific or statistical conferences, seminars and workshops; manages and oversees biomedical databases for assigned research projects; evaluates current software and makes recommendations for upgrades or changes; seeks opportunities for involvement in statistical leadership and mentoring through teaching and supervision; plans and develops individual methodological research; assists with annual operational budget preparation; monitors expenditures; attends project meetings. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Master's degree in biostatistics, statistics or other quantitative field, or an equivalent combination of education & experience required; additional coursework in epidemiology, public health, biology or medicine desired; considerable knowledge and command of at least one of the following programming languages: SAS, R, or Stata required; at least four years experience as a biostatistician required; five or more years experience in managing large data-sets and utilizing statistical software packages required; experience preparing grant applications and writing research reports preferred. Requires successful completion of a background check; Selected candidate may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
