Job Title: Field Assessor/Interventionist Department: EHE | Crane Center for Early Childhood Our goal is to experimentally test whether the language-focused intervention facilitates students’ learning of key language and reading comprehension skills in the short- and long-term. Research assistant conducts research activities for NIH-funded study of a small-group language-focused intervention implemented in local elementary school classrooms with first graders identified as at risk for reading comprehension difficulties; this research involves multiple school districts, classrooms, and children; assists the research staff in the long-term and day-to-day progress towards project deliverables; helps with student retention/tracking activities; maintains project documentation/protocols; attends project/staff meetings, additional trainings, and workshops as needed; and otherwise assists with field-based activities. Additional Interventionist duties: facilitates the collection of data; verifies completeness and accuracy of collected data; maintains data collection logs; prepares intervention lessons and collects lesson implementation data (e.g., video records each lesson, completes daily logs); provides language and reading intervention to small groups of first grade students. Additional Assessor duties: facilitates the collection of data; conducts pretest and posttest assessments of first grade students; verifies completeness and accuracy of collected data. Position training will occur starting in August or September 2022; assessment and intervention duties will occur during the 2022-2023 school year. This position requires satisfactory background check, and may require a health screening and references. Individuals must comply with OSU, CCEC, and local school district COVID guidelines. Required Qualifications • Associate’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. • Prior experience working with children (4-12 years of age). • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a research team. • Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds. • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel. • Reliable means of transportation to/from the Crane Center and to local schools. • Daytime availability Monday-Friday during school hours. Interventionists would visit the same elementary schools during the same time block each day. • Willingness to complete a background check, fingerprinting, and other requirements to be able to work with children in schools. Desired Qualifications • Experience conducting social science research. • Experience with psychological and/or educational assessments. • Experience providing instruction or intervention in an education setting, particularly language and/or literacy instruction.
