Job Title: IRP- Medical Technologist Department: James | James Lab Scope of Position The James Laboratory provides comprehensive, time sensitive laboratory services to patients with a variety of diagnoses or admission/discharge criteria. The James Laboratory staff performs testing on patient specimens utilizing chemistry, immunochemistry, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation and assists with bone marrow procedures. The James Laboratory provides training for residents, new staff and medical technology students. The James laboratory is staffed 24 hours 7 days a week. Position Summary The medical laboratory technologists’ performs routine automated and manual procedures, verifies and reports test requests and results. Handles phone inquires regarding patient results, specimen collection and testing frequency. Oncology staff uses the laboratory computer system to review report and call critical values to various healthcare professionals. The James Laboratory staff performs and documents quality control, quality assurance and preventative maintenance on instrumentation. Medical laboratory technologists work under the direction of the lab manager and lead technologist(s). Minimum Qualifications For Hire: Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, or biological science with Medical Technician certification. Must obtain Medical Technology certification within one year from the date of hire. On going: Meets mandatory hospital education and health surveillance requirements. Demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions.
