Job Title: Lactating Herd Coordinator - Wooster Dairy Department: FAES | Animal Sciences Wooster Dairy Center Job Description Provides supervision and leadership for the second shift of the Wooster Dairy operation. Manages the lactating herd and allocates animals and other resources needed for research, teaching and Extension activities involving lactating and dry cows; provides and manages care for lactating dairy herd including milking, feeding, estrus detection, artificial insemination, and health treatments. Assists veterinarian with treatments; reviews and ensures research and teaching protocols are followed; makes culling and breeding decisions for the lactating herd; Assigns work to employees as directed by manager; assists with timesheet management for hourly employees; Must maintain grade A milk standards and milk processor standards regarding milk quality 65%: Provides care for lactating dairy herd including milking, feeding, estrus detection, and artificial insemination. Assists with pen assignments to appropriate barns and research areas. Reports health concerns and assists veterinarian with treatments. Allocates lactating animals and other resources for research, teaching and Extension needs. 20%: Safely and humanely moves cattle between barns and the milking facility. Assists with hoof trimming and other herd maintenance tasks. Assigns work to employees as directed. 15%: Assists with record keeping and procurement of supplies to support the operation. Maintenance and oversees milking parlor repairs and service. Maintains grade A milk standards. Minimum Education Required Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a Major in Dairy or Animal Sciences Required Qualifications Experience in caring for animal herds, including nutrition, breeding and disease control; experience in a progressively responsible supervisory capacity; ability to lift and carry for short distances at least 75 pounds.
