Job Title: Research Aid Department: FAES | School of Environment and Natural Resources We are looking for a Research Aide to assist OSU graduate students with field and lab work on two projects. MUDPUPPY PROJECT The primary responsibilities of this position are to conduct mark-recapture and eDNA surveys for mudpuppies in Ohio. Successful candidates must be able to work long days in field or laboratory setting, work well both independently and with others, and follow field, lab, and data entry protocols. Previous experience conducting mark-recapture and eDNA surveys is preferred. Training will be provided. An average work week will be approximately 35 hours. The hours change seasonally based on the search protocol. You will work with a field partner i.e. graduate student or field volunteers. GREEN SALAMANDER PROJECT The primary responsibility of this position is to assist field surveys of green salamanders in Ohio. Candidates must be able to work long days in all conditions, carry up to 20 pounds of gear over steep terrain, and be comfortable conducting nighttime surveys. An average work week will be approximately 35 hours. Field housing accommodations will be provided while assisting with this research. Required Qualifications High School graduate or Associate Degree required. 0-1 years of relevant experience required. 0-2 years of relevant experience preferred. Desired Qualifications A degree in biology, natural resources, wildlife ecology, or equivalent experience. The offer for this position will be based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications. Must be in good physical condition; surveys will require working in freezing temperatures in rivers and hiking over rugged terrain while carrying field gear. Must have ability to work independently in a lab setting and oversee laboratory activities. Excellent record keeping and organization skills. Availability to travel for field data collection; must have valid driver’s license. Must be able to work independently and interact professionally and respectfully with project managers, biologists, technicians, the public, and volunteers. Must be equipped with and provide own clothing suitable for outdoor work in all elements (especially cold weather). Waders will be provided.
