Position Description:

This is not your typical barista position! The Pamplemousse Project is a new artisanal cafe in downtown White Plains that offers ethically-sourced coffee and hand-crafted drinks, fresh baked goods, and confections. But we offer more than just the best drinks and treats in town. Our goal is to become a community hub and joyful gathering place and to bring a spirit of fun to our customers and community. We will also support the local school district and other community organizations with programs at the café. And our commitment to the community goes even further: our mission is to donate 100% of profits back to nonprofit organizations that support our local community. The Barista is responsible for creating an exceptional customer experience, ensuring that every customer receives individualized attention and representing the café in a professional manner. The Pamplemousse Project offers a fun, social, team-oriented work atmosphere – and the chance to truly make a difference in your community.

The Barista reports to the Café Manager and will have opportunities to grow into leadership positions.

Responsibilities:

• Nurture relationships with customers to ensure that every customer’s expectations are exceeded every time they visit
• Provide friendly and knowledgeable service that exceeds the customer’s expectation, including educating customers about our menu and making recommendations based on their preferences
• Prepare hand-crafted hot and cold specialty coffees and beverages
• Handle brewed coffee and food for customer orders
• Operate the Point of Sale system
• Ensure that the café stays clean
• Assist with product stocking and rotation
• Occasionally, open or close the café (early morning/evening hours)
• Be part of community engagement programs, including occasional events and learning programs for students

Qualifications:

• Must be friendly, have strong communication skills, and enjoy connecting with customers
• Must thrive in a fast-paced environment and take initiative and pivot as needed
• Must love working with a team
• Must be willing to uphold high standards for sanitation and safety
• Must be able to stand for a full shift, including some bending and twisting, occasional kneeling/squatting, and light to moderate lifting
• Previous barista, food service, or guest service experience preferred but not required
• Minimum age 16
• COVID-19 vaccinated candidates only

Job Types: Full-time (including weekdays, weekends, opening and closing shifts). Must be available year-round (not a summer position).

Pay: $15 per hour, pay commensurate with experience

Supplemental Pay: Tips, average $5-$10/hour
