POSITION SUMMARY:

The Theatrical Technician is a hands-on position that performs duties related to the technical preparations, safe operation, and maintenance of sophisticated production equipment and systems used in support of stage productions, meetings, and related events at the Peace Center. In conjunction with department heads the Theatrical Technician provides leadership and training to over-hire labor, and interns. The tasks and duties associated with the Theatrical Technician position will vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Under the supervision of the Director of Production, Production Coordinator, and the Department Heads, the Theatrical Technician will provide technical support for production related tasks, including but not limited to loading in and changing over scenic and technical elements for productions and events, carpentry, rigging, fly rail operation, audio setup, front of house and monitor sound board operation, lighting design, lighting console operation, hanging and focusing of lighting instruments, atmospheric effects, follow spots, video setup and operation, securing and setting stage props, set dressing, scenery, set assembly and placement, including risers and furniture, orchestra shell, pit seats, vinyl dance floor (Marley) and other floor coverings, quick-change booths, orchestra pit setup, masking, soft goods deployment and storage, and loading and unloading trucks. This is an experience-level position and performs all other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Uphold safe practices and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Supervise crews; act as an assistant lead run crew.
  • Provide input on equipment purchases, rentals, repairs, and upgrades.
  • Maintain production equipment and inventory in a manner that is conducive to efficient operation.
  • Maintain an inventory of spare parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Perform show duties, as needed to support a performance.
  • Stay abreast of best practices and new technology in the field.
  • Maintain Peace Center standards of excellence.
  • Execute duties and projects, as assigned.
  • Assist local/resident companies with production related needs at The Peace Center.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in general stagecraft techniques.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience running consoles.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Regulations.
  • Knowledge of basic principles and methods of stage management.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of production equipment and systems.
  • Broad knowledge in audio systems.
  • Projection Experience, and Video capture and streaming experience.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and repair of production equipment and systems.
  • In depth knowledge of stage tools & materials.
  • Proficiency in operating theatre systems and communications for cue calls.
  • Understanding of generally acceptable theater practices.
  • Ability to operate a forklift; certification a plus.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office: Word, Excel and Outlook.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver 50 lbs. repeatedly, alone or with assistance
  • Ability to crouch, twist, bend, stoop, climb stairs and ladders, stand and sit for extended periods of time, reach above, below and at neck level, work at heights above the floor.
