Associate I, Internal Communications (Hybrid) The Human Resources (HR) Department within Pew is comprised of the following main functions: Talent Acquisition, Business Partnership/Employee Relations, Talent Management and Development, Internal Communications, and Total Rewards. The department provides strategic support to the business by aligning priorities and service delivery with the needs of the organization, providing expertise and leadership in each functional area, and serving as an internal consultant to help drive results. A team of skilled professionals currently provides support and consultation to approximately 1000 distributed staff. This includes developing, implementing, and maintaining the best practices in the areas of talent acquisition; organizational design, staff development, performance, and talent management; employee relations; compliance; and compensation and benefits. HR is comprised of approximately 30 staff with representation in both Philadelphia and Washington, DC to provide in-depth expertise to clients. Position Overview: The Associate I supports internal communications strategy and plans that engage, inspire, and drive staff understanding of the organization’s priorities, key initiatives, and culture. Through the staff intranet and other technology platforms, this position is primarily responsible for communicating organizational highlights, information that staff need to know to be successful in their roles, and spotlighting key milestones, successes, and other noteworthy happenings. The position interacts with multiple levels of management and staff to identify and bring forward story ideas, research information relevant to Pew’s programmatic work and operational initiatives, and share news and stories about Pew colleagues. This Washington, DC-based position reports to the Senior Manager, Internal Communications and is eligible to telework up to 60% per month. Responsibilities: Implements key facets of the internal communications strategic plan. Manages the day-to-day responsibilities for Pew’s intranet, including writing, proofing, and posting content; developing story ideas; providing/analyzing metrics; sourcing and cropping images; and conducting training on SharePoint and other technology platform functionality, as needed. Identifies and develops people-focused stories to be published on Pew’s internal communication vehicles as appropriate. Assists with internal strategic consulting provided to managers of program and operations teams in support of internal communication strategic objectives. Participates in the development and support of program goals and objectives in all areas of internal communications. Supports the organization’s journey toward a more inclusive, diverse, and equitable organization by ensuring that all communication supports IDE goals and priorities. Builds effective relationships across the organization to strengthen the pipeline of stories and articles that report on successes, internal and external events, in-house and external speakers, IDE efforts, and program/operational news. Shares responsibilities for maintaining editorial calendar; writes and edits a variety of communications; develops content for weekly newsletter publication. Participates in project meetings as needed or assigned. Researches and stays current on emerging trends and best practices in internal communications. Other duties as assigned. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in communications or equivalent experience required. One-plus year(s) of relevant internal/employee communications and/or other communications experience required. Experience in writing, editing and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information in clear, compelling ways. Experience writing for internal audiences. Experience interacting with, and building constructive and effective relationships, with staff at all levels of an organization. Working knowledge of SharePoint including experience publishing content and new page development. General working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite products including Photoshop and Illustrator preferred. Experience in building organizational alignment and culture through communications that promote understanding of organizational objectives and operations. Organizational and project management skills desired, with the ability to deliver on multiple priorities. Ability to rapidly shift gears and accommodate changes, incorporating new information with minimal disruption. Travel: No travel is anticipated for this position.
