*Job Description
-High School Football Head Coach*
Accountable to the K-12 Athletic Director, the High School Foodball Head Coach supports the combination of academic and athletic success for each student. This position instructs student-athletes in the fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. The head coach helps to build positive team and school culture and provides instruction that leads to the formulation of values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline and self-confidence for the student-athletes.
Supervises: High School Football Assistant Coaches
Compensation: This is a stipend-paid position, and the pay range is $3,200 - $4,000. The school participates in the Colorado Public Schools Retirement System PERA.
Essential Functions:
Program Development & Logistics
- Attend all Athletic Director meetings and league meetings.
- Build and improve relationships with other sports teams in the school district at the same or different levels.
- Attend and participate in ongoing professional development as a coach to improve overall student-athlete skill.
- Increase the number of participants through effective recruiting of currently-enrolled students.
- Submit rosters in a timely manner as outlined by K-12 Athletic and Assistant Athletic Directors.
- Conduct effective practices to develop strength, endurance, and athletic skills.
- Conduct activities to build individual participants into a cohesive team.
- Manage all program funds with fidelity and integrity; follow all business office policies and procedures regarding fundraising, depositing of funds, purchases, etc.
- Ensure that all student fees are collected and/or resolved prior to first competition.
- Work collaboratively with K-12 Athletic and Assistant Athletic Directors to develop and implement fundraising initiatives and build community relationships to ensure program success.
- Acquire, distribute, maintain, and repair equipment and uniforms.
- Provide appropriate support for visiting teams and officials.
- Understand the correct application of and skillfully use First Aid and CPR training to prevent, minimize and treat predictable injuries.
- Support the K-12 Athletic Director and Assistant Athletic Director with collection and tracking of all required student forms.
- Complete required reports and requisitions.
- Keep MaxPreps up to date with scores and statistics.
Student-Athlete & Parent Support
- Conduct parent meetings with clear, documented expectations for players and parents.
- Monitor academic progress and student eligibility.
- Support student-teacher relationships and provide academic support opportunities for student-athletes.
- Create practice plans specifically designed for incremental skill development.
- Teach and encourage sportsmanship and integrity.
- Develop life skills in student-athletes.
- Provide appropriate, systematic feedback to all student-athletes.
- Build and improve relationships among peer coaches and teachers.
Personnel Management & Support
- Outline and delegate duties to assistant coaches within the guidelines of Assistant Coach job description.
- Successfully motivate and utilize the talents of assistant coaches in the program to carry out effective student-athlete development, practice implementation, game management, and parent relationships.
- Provide regular individualized feedback for assistant coaches and conduct a formal evaluation at the end of the season for each coach.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge in football, coaching, and training techniques.
- Ability to work as an integral part of the coaching staff.
- Demonstrated experience working successfully with diverse populations.
- Ability to teach student-athletes appropriate skills and develop integrity, hard work and responsibility.
- CHSAA certified or willing to become certified before the start of the season.

Working Conditions:
Exposure/Noise Level: Normal school environment with moderate to high noise level.
Mental Functions: Analyze, collaborate, communicate, compare, compile data, compute, coordinate, direct, evaluate, instruct, report.
Physical Activities: School environment including computer interface. Bend, reach, sit, stand, stoop, talk, walk, and heavy person-to-person interaction with students, parents, peers, and community members.
Weight and Force Demands: Moderate physical activity (lifting, pulling, and pushing up to 35 pounds).
Other: May be required to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work-related functions.
