What are the responsibilities and job description for the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) position at The Plymouth House?
Guardian Recovery Network is a nationwide provider specializing in substance use disorder primary treatment. The Plymouth House is a featured location in Plymouth, NH. We are a residential and partial hospitalization level of care. We are looking for a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
POSITION PURPOSE:
The function of the PMHNP is to assist the Medical Director provide substance abuse services. The PMHNP goal is to assist in ensuring all clinical programs are safe and appropriate to the clients’ specific issues, drug of choice, and medical history. ANP will direct and coordinate medical services and care in coordination with the Medical Director with other areas of the organization while making reasonable accommodations to ensure clients are safe and comfortable as possible during their stay.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
1. EDUCATION:
Graduation from an Advanced Practice Master of Science in Nursing program or completion of a formal Advanced Practice education program
2. EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of one year in partial hospitalization or outpatient setting. Residential experience preferred.
3. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
Current Licensed PMHNP with a valid unencumbered license to practice medicine in the State of Practice in good standing. This physician shall be a member in good standing in the medical community.
4. KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING
REQUIRED AT TIME OF HIRE:
Knowledge of addictions and mental health complications
Knowledge of the 12-Step Recovery Program.
Knowledge and competency in problem solving, stress management, ethics and team building.
Knowledge of alcohol and other drugs that includes:
- Alcohol and addictive drugs and their physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual impact on the individual.
- Alcohol and addictive drugs and their impact on the family.
- Ability to determine if a medical emergency exists and to take appropriate action, when necessary.
- Knowledge of emergency procedures used in case of alcohol and/or drug overdose.
- Knowledge of the stages of alcohol and other drug withdrawals and ability to take appropriate action at each stage.
- Knowledge of Federal, State and Municipal laws and/or regulations that regulate the treatment of alcoholism and drug addiction, including:
- Confidentiality
- Patient Rights
- Professional Code of Ethics
- Discrimination
- Knowledge of airborne and blood borne pathogens (TB, HIV, AIDS, HB) and risk reduction methodologies and the use of universal precautions.
- Flexibility to adapt to schedule changes and assumption of responsibilities not delineated in the job description which are related to work as a member of an addiction treatment team.
SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY TO POSITION
- Perform complete history, psychiatric and/or physical examination to each new client within timelines stipulated in the facility policy and procedure manual.
- Assists the physician in providing medical protocols
- Makes recommendations for follow-up services that reflect the findings or risk factors discovered during medical assessments.
- Ensure that clients are referred to specialists when the medical needs of a client cannot be met by the providers of the addiction treatment center.
- Assists in the monitor and ensure the provision of all prescribed drugs and medically necessary pharmaceutical services.
- Assists in ensuring that drug utilization reviews are appropriately conducted and documented as outlined in the policy and procedure manual and to specifically indicate the use/do not use abbreviations list and look alike/sound alike medications.
- Assists in the implement and maintain policies and procedures to ensure the Clients' right to confidentiality of medical information.
- Attends Bi-Annual Meetings and any additional as determined for the following committees: Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee & Medical Services Review Committee
- Ensure that client's rights and responsibilities are communicated these to agency clients and providers.
- Maintain procedures for monitoring the coordination of care provided to clients, including but not limited to all medically necessary services delivered both within and outside the addiction treatment agency.
