JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Provides in-patient and outpatient neurosurgical-trauma services to The Queen’s Medical Center (QMC) patients through direct patient care, teaching and supervision of students and residents from the John A. Burns School of Medicine and assigned residents from other programs.
  • Assists physician and nursing QMC leadership to educate QMC staff and assist in guidance to develop outstanding clinical services, educational programs and research.
  • Fosters communication and teamwork among all internal and external constituencies.
  • Periodically provides outpatient services on neighboring islands and QMC outreach clinics.



CLINICAL 

  • Provides in-patient and outpatient neurological surgical trauma services including admissions, consultations, follow-up care, and crisis management to QMC patients. Serves as admitting attending or consulting physician, as appropriate.
  • Assists in the triage of appropriate transfer of potential neurosurgical trauma patients.
  • Participates in emergency neurosurgical trauma call for QMC on a rotational basis.
  • Evaluates patients in the emergency department and via the transfer call center for questions of appropriate admission or triage of neurosurgical trauma patients.
  • Develops and implements program and performance improvement activities to optimize neurosurgical trauma patient care.
  • Teaches and supervises students and residents from the University Of Hawaii John A. Burns School Of Medicine and assigned residents from other programs.
  • Participates in the education of nursing staff and other allied health professionals.
  • Provides timely, accurate and consistent communications with the primary care and consulting physicians and care team in a positive manner.
  • Maintains accurate records on all patients seen as the primary physician or consultant.
  • Mentors and supports the careers of neurosurgeons coming out of Fellowship, as assigned.
  • Provides oversight of quality for neurosurgical program (including employed and private neurosurgeons), as assigned.
  • Responsible for program development of a comprehensive neurosurgical service (including but not be limited to strategic planning, telemedicine capability, collaboration and communication with internal and external key stakeholders), as assigned.
  • Develops guidelines based on evidence-based medicine for neurosurgical conditions that will help to provide the best care for patients, as assigned.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine or EC FMG certification.
  • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Hawaii.
  • Board certified or board eligible in Neurosurgery.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support at the Healthcare Professional Level and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • During the period of employment, shall be and remain a member of the QMC medical staff in good standing with appropriate privileges without restriction.
  • Qualified for an appointment on the faculty of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine.
Base salary begins at $746,752/year with opportunity for productivity and quality incentives.
