What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full Stack Developer position at The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia?

Student Financial Services is seeking a motivated and adaptable software programmer to develop and support custom web-based applications. You will be part of a small team dedicated to improving processes for SFS staff, in turn strengthening the UVA community. This role will be responsible for design, coding, testing, documentation, and production support, as well as some server-side configuration. SFS has a variety of tools utilizing JavaScript frameworks like Vue and React, supported on the back end with PHP and Python scripts that interface with MySQL databases. In addition to managing these tools, our team is always looking for new technology solutions to improve business processes through automating tasks, providing better user interfaces, and making data more accessible. A successful applicant will be comfortable gathering requirements from our users, designing data models, utilizing REST APIs, and implementing modern web design practices. Proficiency in JavaScript and SQL is required for this role, and PHP or Python is strongly preferred. Critical thinking skills are essential, as is the ability to manage multiple tasks with strong attention to detail. Familiarity with these technologies would be a plus: Apache web server Linux command line Amazon Web Services SAS git version control We have some flexibility in implementation of our tools and can lean into the strengths of our team, so understanding the principles of web design and data security are more important than technical skills in any one area. Minimum Requirements: Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering or related discipline Experience: At least one year of experience. Physical Demands: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally requires traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs. This position is a Hybrid position located in Charlottesville, VA. The anticipated start date is May 2023, with an anticipated Hiring Range of $80,000-$90000 a year commensurate with education and experience. This position will remain open until filled.
