What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Associate in the Center for Applied Biomechanics position at The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia?

The University of Virginia, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, is seeking applicants for a Research Associate position at the Center for Applied Biomechanics. General duties will include managing complex computational projects including designing, conducting, analyzing, and reporting on results. The Research Associate will assist in the development of new research projects and will help supervise graduate research assistants, technical staff, and junior researchers on project-specific tasks. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A Ph.D. in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering, with emphasis in biomechanics, orthopaedics, or closely related field by the start date. o A minimum of three years of experience in biomechanics. Experience should include the following: - Demonstrated experience with biomechanics simulation, with preference towards developing and using finite element (FE) models in LS-Dyna. - Fundamental understanding of the mechanics associated with high-rate loading to the human body from scenarios found in sports, automotive, or military impact. - Experience in design of experiment (DOE) for parametric analysis or other data analysis techniques - Proficiency in the development and implementation of advanced data analysis algorithms in a common scientific programming language (e.g., Matlab, Python) o Demonstrable knowledge in statistical analyses for quantitative hypothesis testing o Minimum of five years of demonstrable proficiency in high-quality technical writing. o Demonstrate experience in working with a diverse group of researchers and sponsors or varying technical expertise.
