Position Summary

Staff in the Center for Accessible Education work with thousands of undergraduate, graduate and professional students through an interactive process to determine reasonable and appropriate accommodations and support related to specific disability-related needs. The CAE Housing and Auxiliary Services Coordinator will work with UCLA Housing, UCLA Transportation, as well as colleagues within CAE to support accessible education within the teaching, research, and public service mission of the University. The Coordinator will deliver a wide array of quality services, products, and programs to assist students with disabilities living in university housing and students who require auxiliary services. Under the general direction of the Associate Director for Programming, Evaluation and Auxiliary Services, the incumbent will lead initiatives to ensure CAE and Housing Services maintain a focus on providing relevant and consistent housing and programs to support the mission of CAE and UCLA. The incumbent develops, evaluates, and oversees departmental outreach and communications for students and internal customers. Outreach and communication initiatives include: development and coordination of publications, web content, and media productions directed at a variety of populations and target market segments; student care management for at-risk populations; participation in on-campus committees and boards that affect housing and parking and presentations that support and develop the CAE mission; liaison to private renters in the surrounding community. The incumbent serves as a coordinator of the Housing Accommodations Board, assuming responsibilities for

Qualifications

  • Professional experience in post-secondary settings with students who have disabilities, and working knowledge of support services and accommodation methods. (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of policies and procedures on-campus, especially those governing student housing, transportation and access for disabled individuals. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Assembly Bill 746, and the California Fair Housing and Employment Act. (Required)
  • Skill in analyzing problems to formulate logical and objective conclusions. Skill in developing recommendations which lead to major changes in policy, procedures and practices. (Required)
  • Exceptional organizational skills, adept at prioritizing tasks effectively to meet deadlines amidst varying workloads and competing demands. Proficient in independent work and reliably completing assignments with minimal supervision. (Required)
  • Ability to maintain equanimity, sensitivity, and judgment in the face of resistance, indifference or hostility during conflict or confrontations. (Required)
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication abilities. Proficient in articulating information clearly and appropriately across organizational levels. Excellent listening skills and adept at composing grammatically correct and clear correspondence, reports, and materials. (Required)
  • Interpersonal skills to interact sensitively with students (with various disabilities and from diverse backgrounds) and with campus colleagues, governmental officials and community representatives (Required)
  • Skill in listening perceptively and communicating diplomatically with faculty, students, parents, & administrators from various social, cultural, educational, and economic backgrounds to convey awareness and understanding. (Required)
  • Ability to act discreetly on confidential sensitive issues. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of marketing principles to develop, write, and edit content for print and/or web publications. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of UC Guidelines and Practices, and University Policy as they pertain to students with disabilities. (Preferred)
  • Ability to assist in general office functions when needed. (Preferred)

  • Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training (Required)
