We are looking to hire a Director or Assistant Director of Operations. We are looking for an individual who will thrive in a collaborative work culture alongside our Executive Director, Director of Zero Waste, and Director of HR. The Operations position holds an awareness of the overall function of the organization and responds to organizational and staff needs in the realms of organizational planning, workflow development, project management and facilities maintenance.
It is not expected that the person hired will have all the skills and experience to do this job immediately. An individual in this role at any level should be willing to learn, grow, and develop themselves to contribute to an ever improving organization and work environment. An assistant director role may be offered if a candidate is a great fit and shows potential for growth, but needs more support to take on director level functions.
The Repurpose Project is an environmental based nonprofit focused on diverting useful materials from the landfill and redirecting them to the public. We have been located in Gainesville for 12 years and have 38 paid employees. We have two retail locations (each with a different focus) where donations are accepted, processed, and sold to the community. We have partnerships with various organizations around the city as well as a community center where we teach workshops and hold events. General Job Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the director team about big decisions, organizational direction, new policies and long term goals.
- Act as project manager regarding infrastructure changes, maintenance and big initiatives
- Be in direct contact with staff, creating relationships, understanding staff needs, having hard conversations and developing modes of support.
- Develop, assess and improve workflow and materials handling systems.
- Oversee the cohesion of the organization’s different sites and operations.
- Communicate financial decisions and priorities to staff especially as they relate to the daily operations.
Compensation and Benefits

- Assistant Director of Operations Salary $40k-$50k
- Director of Operations Salary $45k-$55k
List of Ongoing Job Duties
Facilities
- Oversee and develop our systems by which reusable materials are brought in, processed, sold and delivered.
- Ensure work environments are safe and safety guidelines are followed by staff.
- Develop safety training programs for staff with the Director of HR.
- Set the priorities for infrastructure needs and facility maintenance with Directors and Managers.
- Manage building and maintenance projects from start to finish.
- Communicate workflow changes and update staff through training.
- Approve purchasing for day-to-day operations.
- Oversee ongoing facility maintenance: termite control, rodent control, lawn maintenance, fire safety, internet, IT issues, registers, etc.
- Maintain proper cash on hand and safekeeping of deposits.
Staff Management
- Maintain relationships with all staff to establish an understanding of the state of the organization and respond to the needs of staff.
- Directly manage facility and maintenance positions
- Co-manage all manager level staff
- Work with the human resources department to create job descriptions, hire staff and oversee employee training programs
- Work with the human resources department to develop and implement staff evaluations.
- Set the priorities of the truck operations in collaboration with the Truck Manager.
- Coordinate and collaborate on new initiatives and opportunities with truck services.
Organizational Oversight
- Develop financial plans with directors as they affect operations and support each department in implementation.
- Track company revenue margins and conduct budget reviews
- Develop organizational goals with Directors and communicate and support staff in attaining those goals.
- Define, implement and revise operational policies and guidelines for the organization.
Partnership Building
- Develop and maintain partnerships with businesses, the university, organizations, and government with whom we provide pickup, clean-out, or deconstruction services.
- Being the face of the organization and representing our organization's interests at community events or meetings.
