CERTIFIED OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ASSISTANT
RESPONSIBLE TO: Coordinator of Health-related Services
FUNCTION: Under the direction of a licensed Occupational Therapist, will contribute to the assessment and evaluation of client’s needs, and plan and implement a treatment program to help meet the identified needs. Treatment may be provided through the use of gross motor, sensorimotor, fine motor, visual perceptual or activity of daily living techniques. Treatment may be implemented through the use of creative, manual, industrial, educational, recreational, social and self-help activities to enable individuals to achieve his/her optimal level of self-care productivity.
SPECIFIC DUTIES: 1. Provides initial and annual screening of clients. 2. Under the supervision of Occupational Therapist, writes initial screening notes, develops Treatment Plans and methodologies and records progress notes. 3. Provides direct therapy to a specific caseload according to Treatment Plan. 4. Schedules evaluations and treatment and coordinates schedule with other department employees. 5. Constructs adapted equipment and assists in splint fabrication as directed and checks periodically. 6. Assists in evaluation for feeding program. 7. Participates and assists the Occupational Therapist during the evaluation of patients and may complete relevant documentation. 8. Available for necessary home visits and field trips as required. 9. Contributes to IPPs primarily short-term goals, and attends IPP meetings and reports Occupational Therapy progress. 10. Provides Occupational Therapy services as requested by ICF, Residential and Early Intervention Program. 11. In conjunction with Occupational Therapist, participates in the development of therapeutic positioning methods for specific individuals and trains staff in techniques used to incorporate such methods. 12. Do routine department record keeping and documentation of services in accordance with regulatory requirements. Meet with parents and support staff as necessary. 13. Performs any other related duties as required by the OTR or Assistant Administrator/Clinical Team.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The ability and desire to work with people, ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a timely manner, willingness to accept direction and supervision, the ability to implement goal-related activities in a creative and challenging manner, must possess good organizational and time management skills, physical abilities commensurate with requirements of job.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program, certification as an Occupational Therapy Assistant, and a valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable to TRC insurance carrier or equivalent accommodations. 6/96, 2/17 Health-related Services
