Job Summary: Under the general supervision of the site administrator, to perform paraprofessional library and clerical duties in an elementary school library; coordinates activities to ensure smooth operation of the library and do related work as required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1.
Assists students and teachers in the use of library facilities and services in the selection of library materials.
2.
Performs circulation duties including checking books in and out, sorting and shelving books, and keeping circulation records.
3.
Processes new books and materials, keeps track of where books are located, and maintains a computer database for such.
4.
Maintains shelf list and card catalog.
5.
Prepares requisitions for, receives, and distributes films.
6.
Contacts students about overdue or damaged materials and collects fines.
7.
Processes new materials.
8.
Performs yearly inventory.
9.
Mends books and does minor repairs on equipment.
10.
Sets up bulletin boards and displays.
11.
Organizes elementary book reviews and book fairs.
12.
Types and prepares routine reports, purchase orders, form letters, and memoranda.
13.
Maintain discipline in the library.
14.
May supervise and train student assistants.
15.
Other duties as assigned.
Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Work Experience: Prior clerical experience, preferably in a library setting.
Competencies:
Knowledge of: Basic library terminology and practices. Modern office practices and procedures. Correct spelling, punctuation, and grammatical usage. Operate various office machines and audio-visual equipment.
Ability to: Process books and materials according to established procedures. Ability to operate a computer and related software (Microsoft Word). Type accurately. Maintain files. Compute simple mathematical problems. Ability to work with media equipment such as video, laminating machines, and fax and typewriters. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
Equipment Used: Microsoft Office, Eduphoria, Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier). General Knowledge of accounting procedures, district policies, and school law.
Working/Environmental Conditions/Mental Demands/Physical Demands:
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Ability to carry and/or lift less than 30 pounds.
- Must be willing to travel to various campus locations as requested.
