Operations Specialist (part-time)

The River is South Central Wisconsin’s busiest food pantry. As part of our services, we prepare fresh meals for pickup or delivery and mobile meals for our clients. We are looking for a customer focused, collaborative part-time Operations Specialist to join our team to support the operations of our various teams including Recovery, Access, Meal, or Pantry. Responsibilities can include sorting and boxing food, coordinating with community partners, leading volunteers, and driving an employer-owned vehicle to complete food recovery routes. The position is part-time (29 hours) scheduled Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 8:00 am – 3:00 pm and Wednesday 10:30 am – 6:30 pm based on organizational and client need. This position may be scheduled for an occasional weekend shift to meet client needs.

In the part-time Operations Specialist role, you will contribute to our mission of providing food, resources, and faith to build a stronger community by:

• Loading and unloading of donation items, sorting for quality of items, and placing donations on racks and shelves according to internal procedures.
• Loading food products into client’s vehicles as they utilize the drive through pantry program.
• Assist with documenting accurate incoming donation weight, as needed.
• Driving The River’s cargo van, box truck, and large truck for pickups from local wholesalers, grocery stores, and other locations as needed.
• Coordinating pick-ups of regular and one-time donations.
• Comply with FIFO inventory practices in the warehouse, coolers, and freezers.
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment by keeping shelves, pallet area and pantry area organized.
• Assist with taking out garbage, recycling, and cardboard.
• Provide appropriate receipts to donors upon their request.
• Maintain positive, effective working relationships with staff, volunteers and clients.
• Communicate issues in a timely manner to Team Lead, and if needed Director of Operations.
• Adhere to all safety and hygiene regulations of The River.
• Operate equipment (e.g., dolly, pallet jacks) in a safe manner in compliance with established safe operating policies and procedures.
• Operate The River’s vehicles in a safe manner while obeying federal, state, and local traffic laws.
• Perform other job duties as assigned to meet the organization and client needs.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• 1 years of experience in a customer service role is required.
• Valid driver’s license and 3 years of driving experience is required.
• Multilingual in Spanish is preferred.
• Commitment and passion for The River’s mission, vision and goals.
• Regular and timely attendance.
• Ability to provide excellent customer services is required.
• Ability to lift and move 50 pounds is required.
• Ability to stand, stoop and move inside and outside the pantry for prolonged periods of time is required.
• Ability to work in various weather and temperature conditions.
• Ability to work in an environment exposed to dirt, dust, fumes, and noise.
• Ability to communicate information clearly and understandably through interactions with staff, volunteers, and clients.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and circumstances.
• Ability to respect and appreciate the diversity of all individuals.
• Multilingual is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to operate standard warehouse equipment.
• Ability to work productively with limited supervision in a collaborative environment.
• Ability to think quickly and make good decisions when problems arise.
• Ability to build good working relationships and foster feelings of mutual respect with staff, volunteers, and clients.
• Ability to keep self and others organized and on task.
• Ability to remain calm and clearheaded under stressful situations.
• Comfort with leading others in assigned duties.
• Previous experience in basic math skills.
• Ability to complete a background check and DMV record check.
