Assistant Day Camp Director

This is a temporary camp position that will run from June 3 to August 9th.

Starting salary is $13 per hour.

Summary/Primary Purpose: Act as Lead Staff in Summer Day Camp, oversees financial, state/federal and The Salvation Army (TSA) policies compliance. Works closely with Corps Officer. This position oversees business and facility operations of summer day camp to include seasonal staff and budgetary functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the oversite & operation of the summer day camp program including planning activities, scheduling field trips and interacting with children and parents.
  • Assist in the responsibility of the financial business operations of the summer day camp to include budget, monitor income/expenses within budget parameters and provide reports as required.
  • Assist in the tracking and monitoring of record keeping for campers.
  • Assist to ensure compliance with state, federal regulations for day camp operations and staff.
  • Assist with being responsible for safety in all areas of risk, including property, activities, children and youth worker protection.
  • Assist in preparation and practice Emergency Response Plan for TSA.
  • Serve as the leadership for children, parents and staff with abilities to relate joyfully and sensitively to children of all ages with individual needs; use appropriate positive discipline consistently; handle security and crisis situations calmly.
  • Maintain current recreation equipment such as game equipment, balls, games, puzzles, books etc.
  • Driving is an essential role of this position.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Seasonal Camp Staff & Volunteers

Education and/or Experience: Experience/Degree in Education, Childcare or Program Management and/or two years' experience in related field.

Requirements:

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.

  • Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft software to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. As well as the ability to access payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web-based system.
  • Administrative skills to include utilization of standard office equipment, data entry, 10-key, attention to details and filing.
  • Good communication skills both written and spoken, and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters.

Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business. Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army and be CPR/First Aid/AED trained.

Working Conditions: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Must be able to frequently be in the sun and/or outside in varying weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but ranges from quiet to loud.
