Job Summary
The Facilities/Porter Staff position will assist the Facilities Manager in all aspects of the grounds, buildings, security and operations of the facilities, including repair and service to preserve the functionality of the facility and grounds, as well as maintaining a clean safe facility at all times. This is a 29 hour position and requries weekend availibility
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Maintain the grounds including landscaping, snow removal, property upkeep, security, traffic control of outside venues etc. under the supervision and instruction of the Facility Director.
- Maintain the cleanliness and safety of all private and public areas to assure that users of the facility receive safe, effective and acceptable service.
- Perform repairs and preventative maintenance procedures on all equipment assigned to your responsibility.
- Maintain the facilities by cleaning, repairing, and replacing fixtures and equipment as necessary to assure a safe and productive facility.
- Maintain the appearance of the facilities by painting, replacing worn out fixtures and other tasks necessary to assure an attractive facility is presented to guests, visitors, and employees.
- Adhere to, and if necessary, reorganize daily custodial schedule of the building internally and externally. This includes but is not limited to dusting, sweeping, mopping, waxing floors, cleaning windows, vacuuming, emptying trash, etc.
- Keep all custodial work areas and closets neat and clean.
- Assist in the preparation of venues for events as required.
- Assist in the execution of events as directed by a supervisor.
- Maintain grounds, including mowing, trimming, pruning, sprinkler repair, sidewalks and parking lots sweeping and snow blowing and trash pick-up.
- Maintain the building's plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems under the instructions of the Facilities Director as necessary.
- Follow established protocols for the periodic check of systems and the servicing of emergency lights, water heaters, security systems, fire systems, HVAC equipment, etc. and report your findings to the Facility Director.
- Assist in maintaining an inventory of supplies and equipment and report needs to the Facility Director when supplies are needed.
- Help oversee and document the upkeep and maintenance of all vehicles and equipment including fitness equipment.
- Develop skills and qualifications by having a complete understanding of the fire system, emergency generator operation, water shut down, gas shut off, etc. to ensure the technical competency and teamwork to provide quality service.
- Work in cooperation with other staff members when custodial or maintenance needs arise in their areas.
- Resolve any guest concerns in a prompt and professional manner, regarding, but not limited to: service, price, product, quality, etc.
- Be a service oriented team player who can take initiative, work independently and quickly adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- Be able to work with, direct, and relate well with co-workers, staff, and guests while maintaining the standards of The Salvation Army.
- Adhere to all grooming, uniform rules and conditions set forth by The Salvation Army.

- General Qualifications and Proficiencies
- High school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Trade school or time active in trade certification preferred.
- Plumbing, electrical, HVAC, landscaping experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work without supervision.
- Ability to reason and problem solve.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to balance multiple tasks at once.
- Must be willing to work a varied shift (nights, weekends, etc.).
- Able to work with all ethnic and socio-economic populations.
- Valid Driver's license and reliable transportation
- Ability to kneel, squat, bend, lift, climb, and stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to grasp, push, and pull objects and reach overhead.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
