Summary/Primary Purpose: Coordination and oversight of all Social Services functions being provided from The Salvation Army Capital Area Command.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support program development including creating policies, procedures, and evaluation of programs.
  • Support seasonal and on–going programs, including Christmas and Angel Tree assistance.
  • Oversee pantry program operations at the Command office.
  • Support and provide oversight of volunteer.
  • Responsible for development and implementation of the Pathway of Hope to serve individual and family needs.
  • Provides direct client services including interviewing and assisting clients with material and financial assistance as needed.
  • During times of emergency will aid clients with community resources and material assistance.
  • This role will support case managers in the Des Moines area.
  • Responsible for timely data management including month end reports, food bank requests, SIMS data entry, grant reporting, and other reports as directed.
  • Assist with the development of annual budget, monitor expenditures and applications to funding sources, and authorizes and payments for Social Services Department.
  • Attend and participate in intra-agency meetings monthly.
  • Network with local social service agencies to spread awareness of programs and assistance offered at The Salvation Army.
  • Secure and maintain all certifications for social service programs and staff in the Des Moines area.
  • This role may be required to work hours outside of normal work hours to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Driving is an essential function of the position.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in social work or related field preferred. Or four years of experience in a related field.

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.

  • Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
  • Conflict resolution and de-escalation skills necessary for position.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft software to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. The ability to access payroll, timekeeping, and personal data via a web-based system.
  • Administrative skills to include utilization of standard office equipment, data entry, attention to detail and filing.
  • Good communication skills both written and spoken, and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters.

Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business. Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Successful completion of The Salvation Army Case Manager certification within 90 days of hire.

Working Conditions: The job environment is primarily in an office. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
