What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at The Salvation Army Kroc Center?
The Kroc is looking for a full time custodian!
The Custodian’s responsibilities shall include assisting the Facilities Manager and Facilities Associates in cleaning and maintaining all areas of the buildings. These areas include offices, classrooms, corridors, lobbies, and other public areas such as gymnasiums, worship center, aquatics and fitness center, locker rooms, and restrooms. Project work, especially floor maintenance, may be included in the duties of these employees if these duties are assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Opening and closing of the facility.
2. Keeping grounds clean and free from paper and litter.
3. Restroom and locker room cleaning and sanitization throughout the day.
4. Classroom cleaning.
5. Corridor and lobby cleaning
6. Gymnasium, chapel, field house, aquatics center, fitness center, other program spaces, offices, etc. cleaning.
7. Trash and recycling removal.
8. Assist Facilities Manager and Facilities Associates with any light maintenance work, such as replacement of ceiling tiles and light bulbs, as needed.
9. Perform program and event set-up and clean-up.
10. Report maintenance concerns (work order requests) to appropriate personnel.
11. Respond to emergency cleaning requests.
12. Protect The Salvation Army interests by observing policies and procedures, preventing potentials for liabilities due to injuries; ensures the safety of all guests and participants. Prepare legible and accurate incident reports in the event of accidents or injuries.
13. Participate in training opportunities to gain a thorough understanding of safety, equipment and supplies, and computer systems; maintain and secure equipment in compliance with acceptable standards to ensure the long life of equipment.
14. Ensure guest safety-immediately rectifying and/or reporting any potentially unsafe conditions, reporting problem areas to the Facilities Manager and Manager on Duty.
15. Attend all scheduled staff meetings.
16. Perform other assignments/duties as directed.
17. Be sensitive to the spiritual needs of people and offer to refer them to the Corps Officers and/or another spiritual leader at the Kroc Center.
MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE.
- Must be at least 18 years old;
- Experience in custodial work, preferably in a school or community center environment.
- Must be able to lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. This is considered a medium lifting required position.
- Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, climb, reach, and bend;
- Works well with others;
- Dependable and able to work independently;
- Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.
- Must be able to demonstrate an ability to perform the essential job functions- equipment list: light vacuum, heavy vacuum, buffing machine, burnisher, automatic scrubber, hand truck (dolley), pressure washer, carpet cleaning machines, wet vac, brooms and mops.
SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS.
- Must display an understanding of and support of the Mission Statement of The Salvation Army, and understand the importance of flexibility in relation to this position and accomplishing the mission;
- Must have a working knowledge of and abide by the Kroc Center Code of Conduct & Policies;
- Must adhere to employee guidelines set forth by The Salvation Army USA Eastern Territory, NEOSA Division and the Kroc Center;
- Must have basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, e-mail, calendars;
- Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army;
- Ability to maintain records and reports in an accurate and complete manner;
- Ability to build and maintain effective and professional working relationships with Salvation Army officers, employees, partnership agency staff, volunteers and the community;
- Maintain updated safety trainings required by and as assigned by The Salvation Army and in compliance with OSHA;
- Maintain updated KeepSAFE child and vulnerable persons safety training;
- Must complete a “Webcheck” fingerprint background check, the expense of which will be reimbursed by the Kroc Center after 90 days.
