Job Objective:

As the Food Services Manager you will be responsible for all of the food programming for the Evansville Corps. This position will demonstrate Servant Leadership by maintaining involvement with preparation, set-up, and implementation of Food Services initiatives. Primary responsibilities involve the supervisory and administrative aspects of food services, including menu planning, ordering, maintaining inventories, food distribution, and staff training and development. This position will ensure health and sanitation standards within the pantry, kitchen, and dining areas, and maintain an active Servsafe Food Supervisor Certification, ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out in all food services-related areas.

What You Will Do:

  • Oversee all ordering and purchasing of pantry, kitchen, and other food service related supplies
  • Responsible for daily management of kitchen staff and maintaining department coverage and scheduling
  • Record, receipt, inventory, and account for all items donated to the pantry, kitchen, and dining areas
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory of all equipment, supplies, and food
  • Correlate food ordering with menu plans for time period involved to enhance use of inventory, decrease expired product, and maintain fiscal responsibility
  • Coordinate and participate with loading, unloading, sorting, stocking, and picking up of donated/purchased supplies for lunch program and food pantry
  • Maintain regular communications with multiple vendors and community pantries to compare process and quality as well as to negotiate for best prices with vendors
  • Be ready to prepare and serve meals at assigned times and in accordance with ServSafe Standards if Kitchen Coordinator/Cook is unavailable
  • Ensure food pantry is set up and stocked for distribution every week
  • Maintain client case records for food pantry ensuring client confidentiality of all client information according to Federal, State, and The Salvation Army standards, policies, and procedure
  • Keep accurate statistics on Gift in Kind donations, number of meals served to guests, and pantry items distributed
  • Report statistics and budget expenditure totals on a monthly basis to Social Services Director
  • Plan for food/meal involvement in Corps events in conjunction with the Corps Officers and Social Services Director
  • Maintain compliance for health, safety, and food preparation certifications and inspection processes in food service areas
  • Maintain environment, equipment, and appliances in working order while maintaining health and sanitation standards within the pantry, kitchen, and dining areas for cleanliness and safety
  • Work with Maintenance to maximize equipment life through preventative maintenance schedules & repairs requiring an outside contractor or tradesperson
  • Assist in completing records for food service funding opportunities and grants
  • Submit Incident Reports for events in Food Services areas as needed
  • Contribute to a positive work environment by maintaining a professional demeanor
  • Other tasks as assigned by leadership

Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Culinary Training required. Culinary Arts or Business/Administrative degree preferred.

Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed. Findings may disqualify an individual for this position.

Experience: Training & Experience in institutional food services preferably at a supervisory level.

Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard. Must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment. ServSafe Food Manager Certification required within 6 months.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft products, Email, and ability to learn electronic reporting systems
  • Must demonstrate knowledge and competency in using industrial and typical kitchen equipment and supplies

Supervisory Responsibility: Supervisory responsibility of Food Services staff, volunteers, and community service workers

Physical Requirements Include:

  • Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity
  • Lifting, pulling and pushing of materials up to 50 pounds
  • May require bending, squatting, walking
  • May require standing for extended periods

Travel: Travel, or coordination of travel, to food pantries is expected of this position. May travel for training purposes.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical food services environment.
