Position Type: Regular Full-Time
Pay Range: $21.17- $28.57/hour.
About this opportunity:
Under the direction of the Senior Financial Analyst, supervision of the Commanding Officer, the Accounting Specialist performs accounting functions and financial analysis for multiple locations with multiple business operations which may include but is not limited to: shelters, transitional housing, thrift stores, social services and corps operations. The incumbent will perform transactional and analytical accounting functions for the base location and analytical accounting functions for other locations under his/her purview. He/she will perform basic accounting functions to include accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, posting, verifying entries, recognizing and recording income, issuing disbursements, balancing and reconciling accounts, and preparing financial statements in order to properly record and maintain financial records. The incumbent will assist in training local accounting staff to ensure the application of basic accounting principles and compliance with TSA policies and procedures, GAAP and federal laws and regulations

Key responsibilities:
- Review and analyze and approves batches, transactions and journal entries prepared by local accounting personnel and before posting to the general ledger. Prepares and processes invoices from the Corps locations via batch data entry into the Microsoft Dynamics GP Accounting System. Ensures accurate coding before finalizing entries; upload completed invoices and backup to SharePoint. Builds a professional and positive image of The Salvation Army.
- Tracks payments to ledgers; tracks balances of the same; ensures appropriate staff remain aware of account balances; opens new account files and closes terminated account files in accordance with established procedures.
- Receives and reconciles vendor’s open account statements against invoices processed; follows up with vendor as necessary to ensure all invoices are paid.
- Monitors the accuracy and completeness of accounting data entered in the computerized accounting system by the location Accounting clerks, preparing reclassification and correcting journal entries for entry in to the accounting system as needed.
- Prepares reports covering the status of accounting operations, identifying problem areas, and recommending effective solutions to resolve issues to management.
- Monitors actuals to budget levels within the local operating unit, providing variance analysis and cash flow management to location and supervising headquarters personnel.
- Associate degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration AND
- One year progressively responsible experience working in a general office with accounts receivable or accounts payable responsibilities, OR
- Three years or more of equivalent combination of training and experience in accounts receivables or accounts payable which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
