What are the responsibilities and job description for the Business Manager position at The Salvation Army?

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Fundraising
  • Prepare, present and monitor fundraising budgets
  • Manage seasonal fundraising events/activities
  • Undertake public relations actions to support fundraising
  • Assist and organize mail programs to promote ministries/activities.
Community
  • Advise staff regarding emergency/crisis assistance
  • Undertake public relations actions directed towards agencies, civic groups and the media
  • Manage disaster response coordination with Director of Emergency Disaster Services
  • Manage employees and volunteers that provide direct client assistance in Cheboygan County
Business Management
  • Prepare Cheboygan County budget for submission to Divisional Finance Board.
  • Responsible for all aspects of accounts payable, accounts receivable and all cash receipts within the
social services department.
  • Expenditure and tracking of community funds
Advisory Council
  • Responsible for the management and recruitment of the Cheboygan Advisory Council membership.
  • Assure all meetings regarding the business of The Salvation Army of Cheboygan County are prepared,
including agendas, financial reports, minutes, client reports and any other information that may be
required.
Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or changed at the discretion of the Director of Service
Extension, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.

Education and/or Experience
  • Four year college degree preferred
  • Must possess high school diploma
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills; including the ability to persuade.
  • The ability to work independently.
  • Time management skills are important.
Language Skills
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical
procedures or government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of volunteers, clients,
agencies and the general public.
Personal Qualities
  • Ability to communicate competently both verbally and in writing.
  • Good at listening.
  • Capacity to be a believable spokesperson for The Salvation Army.
  • Must possess a cooperative spirit.
Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where
only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.
Clerical / Mathematical Skills
  • Computer skills in spreadsheet and word processing software.
