Overview
The Assistant Director is responsible for assisting the Program Director in ensuring the health, safety, and quality of education for all children within the program's care. Under the direction of the Program Director, the Assistant Director collaborates with staff to ensure that curriculum and classroom activities are properly delivered and that the needs of the students and the goals of the program are met appropriately.
Responsibilities
- Assume duties of Program Director and Teachers as needed during their absence.
- Assist Program Director with all assigned responsibilities.
- Collaborate with staff to ensure adherence to quality standards in accordance with program guidelines and state and local requirements; implement improvements where needed.
- Maintain communication with families and the community through appropriate outreach activities.
- Follow all program policies and state regulations.
- Maintain a personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.
- Comply with all The Salvation Army policies and procedures.
- Assist and support other activities as needed or instructed by the Corps Officer(s), such as with seasonal programs (Red Kettle Campaign, Summer Camp, etc.), Corps programs, and other events.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree in education or related field of study preferred.
- Minimum one year of experience, preferably in a school-aged setting.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills.
- Proficiency with common office software applications, including Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, etc.)
- A strong understanding of child development.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently.
- CPR/First Aid certified preferred; must be willing to get certified within the first 90 days.
- Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
- Must clear full criminal background check, as well as CARI check and fingerprinting.
- Must be willing to support and/or lead faith-based kids' activities and programming.
- Must provide health screening that includes physical and TB results within the first 90 days.
- Must understand and support the mission of The Salvation Army.
NJ Executive Order 264 - Vaccination or Testing Requirement for All Childcare Center Personnel
Effective November 1st, 2021, all licensed childcare center personnel must either be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or be subject to weekly COVID-19 testing, unless a medical or religious exemption is approved. Being fully vaccinated means that an individual is at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. As a condition of employment, new hires will be required to provide proof of their COVID-19 vaccination or undergo weekly COVID-19 testing until fully vaccinated.
