Life Center Operation Manager

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

General Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision to LIFE Center paid and unpaid staff responsible for day to day administrative, custodial, and non-program related duties.
• Oversee LIFE Center maintenance, repairs, and property project related activities, including securing contractor bids, assisting the Mid-Michigan Area Command Business Administrator to prepare proposal recommendation(s) for presentation to the Advisory and Finance Boards for approval.
• Develop and maintain close, mutually respecting relationships with area officers, advisory board members, community leaders, and business partners.
• Manage facility rentals to generate maximum income. Research and evaluate options to rent space, including gym, commercial kitchen, sanctuary, and other rooms to individuals, organizations, and local businesses when not in use. Establish rates by surveying local market, and with consideration to LIFE Center cost of overhead, depreciation, taxes, and profit goals. Advertise vacancies, obtain referrals, and show space to prospective renters. Negotiate and enforce rental agreements, coordinate scheduling, clean-up, and security.
• Adhere to terms of all partner agreements, including MOUs between community partners and The Salvation Army. All agreements are subject to approval by the Regional Business Administrator, Mid-Michigan Area Commander, and Great Lakes Divisional Commander, according to established national policies.

Responsibilities

• Encourage and train subordinates through local and divisional seminars, workshops, and staff meetings. Communicate and adhere to Salvation Army policies and procedures.
• Promote teamwork and mutual accountability, clearly communicating performance expectations as well as the mission and programs of The Salvation Army.
• Maintain current, organized files. Ensure accurate statistical tracking and reporting of programming and other activities of the LIFE Center.
• Work under the direction of the LIFE Center Executive Director and Area Command Business Administrator to manage the business of the LIFE Center; review and propose changes for all LIFE Center administrative, operational, and program budgets.

Qualifications

• The Operations Manager must be very knowledgeable and able to represent The Salvation Army in various venues and may need to wear identifying apparel as part of this position as needed.
• Has familiarity with innerworkings of The Salvation Army, general understanding of Salvation Army organizational structure, decision authority, standards, policies, and processes highly desired.
• Minimum two-year degree in Business Management or relevant field and three years demonstrated experience in managing and / or serving in a leadership capacity, including experience with business-related software programs. Experience within a non-profit or human services organization is preferred.
• The Operations Manager will be an effective communicator, both verbally and in writing.

Work Environment: Responsibilities of the Operations Manager cannot be satisfactorily performed remotely. Duties will be performed on-site at Flint Beecher LIFE Center.
