POSITION : Youth Ministry Worker / Corps Assistant

SUPERVISED BY : Corps Officer

DIVISION : Northwest

STATUS : Regular Full-Time, Non-Exempt

SCOPE OF POSITION :

Assist Corps Officers with all programming and administration assignments as described. Assist in the growth and implementation of The Salvation Army Great Falls programs, policies, and practices.

This position will require an emphasis on corps and social service outreach programs including, but not limited to : youth programs, recreation programs, seasonal programming, holiday assistance, and outreach ministries.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE :

  • High school diploma required.
  • Degree in a related field (preferred)
  • Montana State Driver’s License (Eventually acquiring a CDL)
  • 2 years or more experience with church related ministry

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :

  • Demonstrated ability to work with youth and adults
  • Ability to keep and maintain appropriate confidentiality
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
  • Must be a team player committed to the common purpose of assisting individuals in need both physically and spiritually.
  • Detail Oriented
  • Takes initiative can work without supervision.
  • Ministry focused mindset.
  • General knowledge of business protocols
  • Ability to pass The Salvation Army driving requirements.
  • Ability to successfully complete The Salvation Army child safety training
  • Ability and willingness to understand and fully comply with mandatory reporting laws and requirements pertaining to vulnerable children and adults
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification (can be completed upon hire)

SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS :

  • Microsoft Word and Excel required; PowerPoint, helpful
  • Experience with other Microsoft Office applications helpful
  • Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Plan and develop creative outreach strategies and programming
  • Lead and / or participate in Salvation Army weekly programming as directed ( Troops, Teen Youth Group, Sunday School, Family Nights, etc.)
  • Assist in finding volunteers for ministries both ongoing and seasonal.
  • Assist in transportation to and from corps / divisional programs and activities.
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of special holiday events and programs
  • Find ways in which to outreach to and bridge the recreational and social service participants to church ministries.
  • Assist with After School Program ( driving and supporting overall program)
  • Assist with the Recreation department as requested.
  • Help plan and implement Sunday services as requested.
  • Keep statistics for all ministry related programs.
  • Represent The Salvation Army in community and inter-agency meetings as directed.
  • Prepare general correspondence as requested, including form letters as needed.
  • Provide administrative and program support to corps officers as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead
  • Ability to operate telephone
  • Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (usually file boxes)
  • Ability to access and produce information from a computer
  • Ability to understand written information
