What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of People & Culture position at The Scott Resort & Spa?

Summary of Position:

As a highly experienced, well rounded, hospitality driven workplace champion and leader who is committed to enhancing a strong foundation of culture, performance, community, development and success, the Director of People & Culture (P&C) will oversee the entire P&C function and have a tremendous impact on our organizational excellence. This role is responsible for The Scott Resort & Spa, on behalf of Classic Hotels & Resorts and reports directly to the General Manager with a "dotted line" to the Area Director of People & Culture and the VP of People & Culture.

Essential Functions:

  • Facilitate, mentor, build on, plan, develop and coordinate the P&C function and initiatives at the resort to engage and inspire Associates and leaders in accordance with the operational needs, policies, procedures, and all applicable laws and regulations; while limiting liabilities and promoting a safe, fair, positive work environment.
  • Actively participate in New Hire/Associate Onboarding, sharing our company, story, culture, benefits, community outreach, rewards and expectations.
  • Short and long term planning and execution of initiatives, as well as the daily operations of the P&C department.  Assists in the creation and makes recommendations in regard to Recruitment, Training, Culture, Recognition Programs, Benefits, Compensation and other objectives.
  • Participates as a member of the resort’s Leadership Committee.
  • Navigate Associate Relations issues, coach and counsel, drive and conduct performance and  salary reviews, proactively manage associate concerns and problems, and nurture and provide open communication, progressive discipline and conduct separations as appropriate.
  • Implement, audit and manage the hourly wage and benefit programs and administer the management salary program within the corporate policies and procedures.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of associate records, files, work authorization documents, legal documents, certifications and office systems.
  • Manage the compilation and analyze various reports to provide management with accurate information.
  • Oversee all Associate Relation matters as they relate to federal, state and local employment and civil rights laws.
  • Partner with, lead, and mentor the People & Culture Manager to create a cohesive and strong department and build the P&C bench for future development; also work closely with sister properties P&C teams and leaders.
  • Drive The Scott and company culture as well as standards of conduct as set forth in resort and company communications.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Area Director of People & Culture, the VP of P&C, and the General Manager.

Qualifications:

Education:  Bachelor’s degree highly preferred; SHRM and/or other HR related certifications a plus. Ability to communicate both verbally and written in both English and Spanish.

Experience:  Minimum of 5 to 7 yrs. of HR and P&C leadership at an Assistant Director/Director level; prior hospitality experience highly preferred.

Certificates or Licenses:  HR related courses/classes/certifications preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of government labor regulations.
  • Knowledge of employee benefit administration.
  • Computer savvy/skilled in Microsoft Office Suite and other ancillary systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to champion the culture and leadership of the resort and the company.
  • Financial acumen for all department and function related expenses.
  • Perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy under pressure of challenging situations.
  • Enforce resort's standards, policies and procedures with all Associates.
  • Be a critical thinker, remaining calm and resolving problems using good judgment.
  • Understand the role of leadership, workplace excellence and guest’s service needs; with the ability and passion to speak to and train as needed to these topics and more.
  • Work without direct supervision/demonstrate initiative.
  • Maintain confidentiality of internal and external guest information and pertinent hotel data.
  • Maintain thorough and current knowledge of all HR/Associate regulations and laws, and ensure that the property is in compliance.
  • Participate in EEO-1, unemployment, wage & hour, work comp, OSHA, ADA, and ACA.  Implement policies and programs to guarantee compliance.
  • General oversight of recruitment, screening, reference checking and associate offers of employment for all levels of staffing.
  • Monitor and analyze employment statistics.
  • Oversee and support training classes and company training initiatives.
  • Participate in the Safety Committee while ensuring compliance with all HR related Loss Prevention SOP's.
  • Monitor orientation/on-boarding programs.
  • Ensure Managers are using coaching, counseling and progressive discipline or performance improvement plans to address issues/concerns.

* Professional Appearance: Exhibits an appearance appropriate for a four-diamond resort (Specific grooming standards are available for review).

Working Conditions:

  Actual hours may vary dependent on business needs, but will generally be Monday through Friday;  

    on call as needed.

  Attendance as scheduled is a critical element in all positions at The Scott Resort & Spa.
