Job Description
TSG Community Services is a private for-profit corporation that provides structured, community-based services to individuals who have a primary diagnosis of mental illness, or emotional disturbance, and/or suffer from a chronic substance use disorder.

ROLE DESCRIPTION
The Peer Support will provide structured, scheduled services promoting recovery, self-determination, self-advocacy, engagement in self-care and wellness, educate/teach independent living skills, and assist with community integration.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide and facilitate community visits with participants in various settings weekly as assigned by program supervisor.
  • Adhering to the peer support principles, values, and ethics
  • Delivery of services based on the principles and philosophies of recovery to provide peer support services
  • Ability to work in partnership with participant to explore and identify barriers to accessing community resources and engaging with service providers
  • Ability to utilize own lived experience to support, encourage, and enhance participant’s work on their recovery based on the goals outlined in Person-Centered Plan
  • Implementing interventions of recovery goals
  • Ability to model and mentor recovery values, attitudes, beliefs, and personal actions to encourage resilience, wellness, and motivation to participants in various settings
  • Ability to model, teach about in share decision-making tools to promote participants taking ownership for personal responsibility
  • Modeling and teaching on healthy social interactions
  • Teaching and assisting participants with community inclusion i.e., how to navigate the community, access resources/services, and develop a sense of community
  • Assisting participants in navigating medical, social services, and medical systems/settings
  • Recognizing and responding to potential conditions/situations emergent both physical and behavioral health, using crisis response interventions, collaboration, and consultation with appropriate stakeholders and resources/services according to agency standards
  • Ability to collaborate with the program Qualified Professional to assess their own strengths and areas of growth and develop a supervision plan.
  • Ability to explore with participants the importance and creating wellness identity through use of shared lived experiences
  • Promoting self-advocacy by educating participants learning their human and legal rights and assisting/encouraging participant
  • Following standards and program outcomes as outlined in the NC Division of Medical Assistance Clinical Coverage Policy 8G
  • Completing all other assigned clinical-administrative tasks within the scope of practice.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or general equivalence degree (GED)
  • NC Certification for Certified Peer Support Specialist
  • Preferred for candidates to have at least 1 year of paid experience with adults with SPMI
  • Completed and maintains required training set forth by NC Division of Medical Assistance Clinical Coverage Policy 8G
  • Complete all agency in-house or registered training
  • Work within the scope of training and knowledge based on level of education and certification
